Hopefully the big launch ratings encourages E4 to acquire more US dramas for the channel.
I enjoyed the first episode, my friend has watched it all and said it gets better after episode 3. It's been hailed as next big sci if series in the states.
It was too predictable unfortunately and the other politics were rather uninteresting given that you're not given any proper introduction to these characters.
Of course that doctor wasn't gonna get jettisoned into space and of course that kid was gonna get speared, look how much time they spent showing them celebrating
Henry Ian Cusick aka Desmond Hume from Lost is in it as well
At last we see him in another life... brother :D:D
The show seemed ok, nothing at all as good as other series such as lost or 90210 but it was ok. I'm quite glad they didn't actually show the apocalypse, was worried it would be as ridiculous as the movie 2012.
But yeah it was quite a bit teenagery at times, especially with the background music scenes like when they first came into earth and the celebration / spearing scene. It needs a few more mysteries for me something to keep me a bit more gripped. I'm hoping this will come soon. Everyone says it gets better by Ep 4 so I will stick with it until then...
I switched off as soon as they had people floating around 'weightless' during entry to the atmosphere.
You are NOT weightless during entry into the Earth's atmosphere, in fact you will be slowing very rapidly and will be subject to several g even before the chutes pop.

I hate it when really basic science is wrong.
That was annoying as were a lot of items with plot holes and pointless scenarios....yes it's cheesy nonsense but I don't mind that often....and to be honest if the pretty brunette is going to strip off "every" episode I'll keep tuning in with a rear like that I won't be bored...
Agree with Rodney above too (which I often do elsewhere anyway) on the science of it and a lot of the premise.......
who would be stupid enough to unbuckle on entry to earth for first time in 100 years?
Were they prepped for g force effects seeing as spent lives on a space station?
How long was the training?
If they were being sent as the only hope for humanities survival why weren't more trained adults sent as well? As they said no doctor with them? Anyone with survival training? Military cadets even?
How could their bodies stand up to suddenly being on earth?
Why were they sent in ordinary clothing and not survival gear? For that matter would they need jackets on a space station..isn't it climate controlled?
Course it's fluff and stuff ...hey try and watch revenge without wincing at eurotunnel sized plot holes it's just a bit confused and doesn't make sense....actually I thought the same of hunger games which I only saw on terrestrial the other night the teen tribute offerings plot made no sense there either...
....but...... now I don't have the beautiful Claudia to watch on tomorrow people anymore I'll have to put up with the bad brunette girl instead!!

They are prisoners and are being used as guinea pigs to see if Earth is habitable again and make sure there's no radiation etc They didn't want to risk sending down valuable people if it's not safe to do so . Their bracelets are suppose to tell the scientists if it's safe or not for others to come down.
'How could their bodies stand up to suddenly being on earth?'
I was thinking that, being in space all their lives, their bodies won't be used to Earths gravity and should have had trouble adjusting, but I just overlooked that bit lol.

I'll put this in spoilers as I've seen episode 2 too and can't remember if it is revealed in ep 1 or 2:
The kids are being sent down as the ark is breaking down. The ark's systems will take six months to repair, but to last six months some of the crew will have to be culled. The arks scientists believe the Earth will be uninhabitable for another 100 years, but since they need to cull some people anyway it was felt opportune to send 100 down to earth to see if it is surviveable, if it is then more can be sent. Mind you they still need to cull another 200 so I'm not sure why they didn't pack up another couple of shuttles and send them down elsewhere on earth, especially as I'dve thought North America most likely to have suffered the heaviest nuking.
Where are the other nationalities? Were they all thrown out of an airlock?
Aren't the 90 odd teenagers just a bit thirsty, tired and hungry and cold? They seem remarkably unconcerned.
Quite enjoyed it, bit hungry for some half decent sci-fi. Falling Skies has gone all V with the blonde girl. Same happened with the original Battlestar Galactica - always bad when some albino kid shows up.
The usual cheese fest. Somehow they managed to send 100 supermodels to earth .
I'll probably watch it just to see how it ends. I'm just glad it's not a 26 episode season as they end with to many filler eps and so 13 should mean a tighter story.
first thing i thought how's Clarke going to navigate to the right mountain through a thick forest without a compass and any survival training, sad i know but i bet Ray, Ed and Bear have nightmares when programmes like this get shown as it makes them look like stupid. If a few kids brought up in space can live easily, make fire and navigate in a hostile environment why do we need them!!
Terrible, I gave it 15 minutes before deciding it wasn't for me. Awful acting and story from what I saw. I've got a very low tolerance for this kind of garbage when I've watched a lot of HBO etc.
Good luck to those sticking with it, I think you will need it!
Cheap and cheesy with amateur acting is the best way to describe it - the pilot episode anyway. Having said that i still enjoyed. It is teenage fare but i also liked the scenes on The Ark with the adults. Others have said it gets better around Ep3/4 so will keep on watching. I mean there's no other decent US drama on E4 at the moment so i'm more than willing to give it a chance.
I did have a feeling one of the kids from the group was going to die at some point and hey it's the one who fancies the hot chick!

Well, a bit of a spoiler
The UK built one but before it was launched someone broke in and stole all the copper wiring.
The Russians built one but it crash landed on the Moon.
The Africans were given the money for one but their leaders spent it on themselves.
The Eastern-Europeans built one and fired it at Russia
The Arabs built one but one of the sects of Islam condemned it as idolatorous and destroyed it.
The Italians built one, then went off for a break and were nuked before they got it off the ground.
The Indians one exploded on the ground.
The Japanese one carried out a kamikaze on the Chinese one.
The French Space Traffic Controllers went on strike
That left the US.
Not much of a surprise though.

Presumably only people from Chester were allowed into space - if Hollyoaks is anything to go by as they seem suspiciously glam.
By a bizarre coincidence, I'm currently halfway through re-watching American Gothic so I spotted her straight off.

Lulz.
oh a saving grace "NO FLASHBACKS" yet!!
bonus to see Kelly Hu - I had no idea she was starring in this so that is a win in my book
Good luck to those sticking with it, I think you will need it!
American Gothic - loved it:)
Bellamy Black - Drew Curtis H&A circa 2006-7 - took a while to recognise him
I did have a feeling one of the kids from the group was going to die at some point and hey it's the one who fancies the hot chick!
Nice use of music from Ben Howard in the show.
Looking forward to Ep2.
