Reading through all the links on Gennette Tate posted on the forums here, certainly make it an even more intriguing case..so many more questions than answers.

    The Julia Wallace murder.

I can't find a link about the possible serial killings of 11 young women across Yamagata Prefecture, Japan, from the 1960s to the 1980s. Each victim was found naked, strangled and abandoned on a snowed-over rice field near an isolated train station or train stop. Each victim wasn't a local in an area where each was found . Each murder happened during the snow season.

All are still registered as unknowns as the police still couldn't identify them. Those victims were never reported missing either. The police has a theory that the killer took his victim to an isolated train stop, then they took a walk around the countryside until he strangled and abandoned his victim on a field, and travelled back home to wherever on train. The body was rarely found for at least three days. The longest was three weeks before a body was found. It was that isolated.

Serial killing is pretty rare in Japan, so the locals including my external family are still a bit freaked out about it. I think they cal it "Frozen Maiden murders"? Or "Ice Maiden murders"?

Edited: All victims' clothes, jewellery and personal possessions were nowhere near their bodies. The police thinks the killer took those back with him.

Has anyone heard of the story of Hinterkaifeck farm? I was only aware of it from Cheers making a reference to the creepy (and pretty horrifying) crime. It involves the murder of a family and servants in rural Germany, the majority of whom were somehow lured one by one out into their farm's barn where someone was waiting to slaughter them. From Wiki:

A few days prior to the crime, farmer Andreas Gruber told neighbours about discovering footprints in the snow leading from the edge of the forest to his farm; however, there were none leading back. He also talked about hearing footsteps in the attic and finding an unfamiliar newspaper on the farm. Furthermore, the house keys went missing several days before the murders, but none of this was reported to the police.

Six months earlier, the previous maid had left the farm, claiming that it was haunted; the new maid, Maria Baumgartner, arrived on the farm on 31 March, only a few hours before her death.

Exactly what happened on that Friday evening cannot be said for certain. It is believed that the older couple, as well as their daughter Viktoria and her daughter Cäzilia, were somehow all lured into the barn one by one where they were brutally slaughtered. The perpetrator(s) then went into the house where they killed two-year-old Josef who was sleeping in his cot in his mother’s bedroom, as well as the maid, Maria Baumgartner, in her bed-chamber.

Not one was ever caught and no motive was ever found for these murders. What also remains a mystery is whether the killer/s had gained access to the house days prior to the crime (explaining the footsteps in the attic) and how the family members were each lured to the barn (presumably after the preceding member had failed to return).

This thread has proved to be interesting reading and really makes you wonder just how many crimes are covered up. With the cases of the various missing children I think there is more to them than the public have been told about.
Although it dosen't possible that a person of any age can just vanish without trace, there's got to be evidence out there somewhere.
Also I do feel sorry for the parents of Meridith Kercher (sp?), it seems like that their daughter has been forgotton about. I think Amanda Knox looked a bit too smug when she was released from prison. I doubt we will ever find out the truth about what happened the night Meridith died.

I think this may be a new one on this thread. Sorry if not.

On holiday in Thailand at the moment. Went to "Jim Thompsons house" - a unique house built by a US silk merchant who lived in and did business in Thailand.

The mystery part is that he went to Malaysia and disappeared in the mountains. Theories range from accident, to eaten by a tiger, murder by business rival or something gov related since he was in the forerunner of the CIA in WWII. Either way, no one knows.

Jim Thompson's house in Bangkok is one awesome pad .

Can't you contribute to the thread rather than just bump it ?

Anybody recommend any good books on some of these cases - just spent the last 2 hours looking through some of the threads - must get ready to go to work though now!

The Cases That Haunt Us by John Douglas covers the Zodiac case, JonBenet Ramsey and several other unsolved cases. I thought it was pretty interesting.

The Anatomy of Motive which is also by John Douglas (and a co-author) is good too. It doesn't deal solely with unsolved cases but there is a little bit on the Brad Bishop case.

Thanks for that. I am interested in disappearances and unsolved murders rather that UFO's and all that so I will look out for these 2 books!

She is still missing. For those that don't know the case - Jeanne Rysiewicz was waiting in-line for a flight at Dallas Forth Worth Airport with her family whom went on to board the flight while she walked off. Her mobile phone and other belongings were found shortly after she went missing. It looks as if she left the airport on her own accord. Where she has gone after leaving the airport is a mystery.

I read about the Jeanne Rysiewicz case on another forum a few weeks ago. Apparently there are pro-life articles on the internet that were written by Jeanne (before she went missing) in which she talked about a march she had been on called March For Life, and she is thought to look up to a woman who founded a pro-life group which happens to be based in Texas. A few people on the other forum think this may be connected to her disappearance.

The 1995 murder of Janet Brown is one which I've always found haunting but which seems, sadly, to have gone quiet and been forgotten by the public. Mrs Brown was found naked, handcuffed, gagged and beaten to death (although police determined that the attack was not sexual) in her country home whilst her husband was abroad working and her children away from home. Nothing was stolen, although the murder was assumed to be an aborted burglary. To date, no one has been brought to justice.

Thanks for the link - never heard of that case before. Any possible theories? Seems odd that nothing was stolen.

It's strange - for such a horrifying case it never seemed to generate a great deal of public interest. You'd think it would given the nature of the attack and the fact that the perpetrator was free to kill again. I do wonder how the police arrived at the burglary conclusion, and find it strange how a putative burglar would have known that Mrs Brown would be alone that night. Surely they didn't break in thinking there would be an entire family there? It's difficult to formulate a theory on this one because there is such a paucity of information available on the case. I can only assume the police had more to work in coming up with the 'botched burglary' with than was made available to the public. Binding and cuffing a naked woman and then bludgeoning her to death just doesn't sit right with me as the actions of a thwarted burglar.

Exactly. I know there has been cases of intruders being violent over the years, but this seems very brutal. You would think that it's a decent possibility that it could have been someone local who may have known Mrs Brown.

On a lighter note, if anyone can explain why my son never has 'room in his tummy' to finish his vegetables, yet he always has plenty of room for desert, I would be grateful if you could solve this mystery. :D

I thought everyone knew that tummies have compartments for different kinds of food, so when the veg one is full (and it is very small ) the one for dessert still has lots of room in it!
