Hello, a place of business were throwing out a dell computer tower, they said i could take it. They said it is fully working and only 3 years old so probably has better specs then my ancient laptop. The only thing is the cables were not with it, they threw out the cables separately, how do i find the right cables to use with the system?

To power the monitor and tower you probably only need a kettle lead and the monitor will probably use a VGA cable to connect to the tower.

EIC power cable, otherwise known as a kettle lead.
The video cable will depend on what type of monitor you have.
The you just need a USB keyboard and mouse.
    Simples.

If its a tower all its going to need is a psu cable (usually a kettle type lead) and a cable to hook it up to a monitor which will most likely be a VGA connector or DVI,If you are unsure of the connector take a pic of the back where all the cables plug in and show it to the person in your local pc store.
Oh and you might an ethernet cable to connect it to your router.
Any keyboard and mouse should just plug straight into the back.
