No trace - the other side 'Rice and Peas' by Laurel Aitken has an identical rhythm track, but different lead instruments. It may be Classics is a pseudonym for the studio band for the Laurel Aitken tracks with another singer I can't identify. Could be a UK recording - the Doctor Bird label had a UK studio before 1969, but from the quality of the 'a' side I'd say it was probably Jamaican.

This has been mentioned several times throughout the life of the thread, not "Spooky" specifically, but the vast number of very good American singles that should have been massive in this country in the mid and late sixties, but were only minor hits or did not chart at all.
Tommy James and the Shondells, the Association, the Lovin' Spoonful and the Young Rascals each recorded many classic singles, but you can count the combined total of big British hits of all four bands on the fingers of one hand.

There seems to be nothing about Claudette anywhere - surprising considering she had 3 singles that year, the third of which 'Skinhead a bash them' is a far superior skinhead reggae classic that can be found on the 'Trojan Skinhead Reggae' box set, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Syx5gF4Q3_E, (surprised that's not in the catalogue), and a 4th 'lost' single issued in 2012 'Hot bread and butter' / Ashes to ashes' (not the Bowie song - it's about a funeral in Brixton).
Just for the record, most people, including 45.cat, go for 1970 issue, which fits the Jackpot label numbering sequence.
There was a really good Otis Redding documentary on BBC 4 the other day. It was about his life, how he composed his music and how he was influenced by The Beatles.
No clues as to the artist (it's the only record catalogued). This one was written by Charles Anzavour and Geoffrey Parsons; which probably means Aznavour wrote it. Parsons was a lyricist who specialised in translating foreign songs in the 50s and 60s.
The b side was a song written by The Skyliners 'Since I don't have you'.

Both written by Tom Springfield, Dusty's brother. He produced them too. According to the Springfield's appreciation thread somewhere else 'Big Town' sounds like 'Island of Dreams'. But there's nothing about the group anywhere.
Neither song was recorded by The Springfields, and the group had split up by late 1963, so it seems likely this was one of Tom's early compositions for other people, at the start of his career as a producer.
