Exactly why I suggest trying them on in decent outdoor shops instead of taking advice about brands from strangers on the internet.

Exactly right. You cannot recommend someone a particular shoe based on personal experience - what suits one person's feet will not suit someone else's. I know from experience the damage an ill-fitting pair of shoes can do so to recommend a particular brand is - with respect to those who have - a tad irresponsible.

The best advice is for the OP to go to a specialist shop - so not Sports Direct or Decathlon - who will be able to look at his/her feet and make a proper judgement as to what will suit best. Good ones will allow you to take them home and walk around the house or even on a treadmill for a few miles to make sure they fit correctly.

How many steps per day have you been doing? Steps are a better measurement, at least at the beginning, because we all have different sized legs. A four-mile walk may be more relative exercise for a 5' 2" person than someone 6' 4", who takes fewer steps!

Im 5ft 7" and do have long legs, so my stride is long. When I do my walks it shoots up to 12,000 steps a day.

On a normal day its hardly anything as I have a desk job (bad I know) hence me doing quite a lot of walking

Weekends, I tend to me horses so there is a lot of walking there too, around the farm

    I'd check these out.

Expensive, but put it this way, I was passed on a pair of these walking boots by my dad when I was a teenager and they are still as good as new to this day, at least 35 years later, despite being worn quite a lot.

I doubt there is much about walking boots and footwear that the Swiss (.ch domain) don't know about.

    Raichle now known as Mammut.

But, yeah, it depends on how much you're going to use these in the future.

Makes like Karrimor and Berghaus are usually pretty safe bets.
