I actually worked for the BBC on the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh in 1986, and they were trialling then a "super slo-mo" machine which recorded at high frame rates, and they were intending to use it at the swimming pool. Unfortunately IIRC they had imported it from abroad, and discovered that it only worked on the US TV standard. D'oh!
One of the more ridiculous logic denying moves of recent time.
In an ideal world Sky Sports News HQ (another pointless change) would be at 400 leaving the other Sky Sports channels to match their numbers in the EPG.
Sometimes it seems they just indulge in change for change sake.
EDIT - Indeed it might make more sense to treat Sky Sports News HQ as a de facto Sky Sports 1 and renumber the main Sky Sports channels as Sky Sports 2 to 6. Sky Sports 5 would remain as the Euro footy channel.
They don't know what to do next. Complete nonsense.
Entertainment's full (up to 299) - though it may move down in the upcoming reshuffle...
That shows how mad things have got re the entertainment section! If say a few more HD channels launch they might have to find a spot for the SD simulcasts to go, so moving them, or the HD channels if you dont have a HD sub, out of the way!
I know the reshuffle is happening, but if the entertainment section had 200 channels it would have a problem!
It's been reported over in the Virgin Media forum that Tru TV will launch on their EPG at channel number 245, which is the next available slot in their Documentary genre. I know Virgin's Entertainment section is quite full too, but from what I can gather, there are a couple of slots free at the end where it could have been added.
Therefore with Tru TV being slotted into the Documentaries genre on both platforms, I wonder if that is how they have chosen to be regarded (and made their programming suit to meet Sky's EPG listing rules)? It could be a bit like when PBS America moved from EPG 166 to EPG 534. Better to take a slot in a less prominent genre, but be one of a small-ish group of channels, than take a slot in the most prominent genre, but find yourself amonsgt nearly two hundred other channels.

I never quite got the whole PBS America move from 166 to 534 as 166 isnt a bad slot I could understand if it was in the 200s though! When they moved I thought at first that PBS America had closed showing that they probably lost quite a few viewers when they moved!
As Tru TV is launching from scratch in the Documentaries genre, its different, as people will always see it as that kind of channel!
I do know that TruTV had to have something live for the 24th for a minimum of 2hrs/day, not sure who's slot they've acquired though. I am also not aware if there's a TruTV+1 planned, it has been mooted to happen but as of yet unknown (possibly using Boomerang+1).
Remind me folks, when does the reshuffle take place?

3rd July according to King of Sat
Currently it's 401-409 = 9 slots. What lotrjw was suggesting was that Sky use 400-409 which would = 10 slots, other broadcasters wouldn't accept that.
I agree with many about moving News to 400
At the moment Sky Sports News is "Sky Spts News" and "Sky Sp NewsHD"
God knows how they will fit in HQ
Would it not be easier to rename Sky Sports News to Sky Sports HQ?
That will be a nice tounge twister for the news presenters, 'sky sports news hq hd on 401'
Oh try this one instead here
I will blame the BBC for problems with their databases

I thought we suggested that they sacrificed 409 and instead used 400-408
12.552 V, 22.000, 5/6.
"54101" has now been relabelled as 'Tru TV'.
'Tru TV' now added to Sky EPG 565.
What the hell is doing up there at that position?? It's an entrainment channel / not a documentary channel.

Yes it could, although I think you mean "move up".

11.464 H, 22.000, 5/6.
The spare "22120" (left over from transponder change)....has been removed.
Noticed this two days ago but forgot to post.

Well that TP is now in full use again like during Wimbledon, as is the space on 10.773 H that is usually BBC RB 1 normally.
