What can I do to fix my acne scars? Please help!

So I've tried two doses of microdermabrasion and it's virtually has no effect whatsoever and am not interested in paying £30 for any more sessions for that, I've tried drinking water (I drink at least 1 litre a day for months), I've tried various face washes and exfoliation masks and nothing seems to work. I still have a ton of lines across my forehead, wrinkles all over my face, red marks, deep scars and my face honestly looks absolutely ruined and disfigured with the amount of scars I have. :(

I'm getting really upset and self concious about it as nothing seems to work.

Please what other things can I try? I have an appointment with my GP on Monday to discuss it but am worried he's just going to give me more useless creams and gels which do nothing for me. I would post a picture but I'm genuinely so ashamed to even do that. :(

Edit - I should also note I have alot of acne on my back and shoulders which is very painful, especially when sitting down. I have no idea how to fix this either, my back is just covered in holes and red marks and pimples.

Have a read of Caroline Hirons (beauty guru) page on acne http://www.carolinehirons.com/2012/05/acne-cheat-sheet.html She really does know what she's talking about.

The one product that really sorted out my acne was Liquid Gold from Alpha H, best £30 I've ever spent, never had a problem with acne after using this.

Glycolic Acid is excellent generally, well in my experience anyway.

You need to see a medical skin specialist. For the current acney they may offer either a course of creams, or Botox (yes it's not just used to create stuck duck face, it's actually used for many other medical reasons). Really no one can answer unless they're a dermatologist. Sadly though you may (depending on where you live) have to pay for it privately. There are things that can be done though....it's not hopeless. If you live in wales I can PM you a place that might be able to help.

Laser resurfacing or chemical peel. Although both are expensive and look very painful and you can never be sure of the result. I have a similar problem and although I often look at the treatments available, I don't think I'll ever be brave enough. If I'm particularly bother, I just slap on the foundation and get on with it.

It did with mine but admittedly I never really had a chronic problem, (all over the face) but many people who have, have reported excellent results. This or any potent glycol acid should help.I went from having scars on my cheeks and forehead to none at all.

Thank you for the replies, will have a look at everything that has been suggested.

Can anyone recommend a good chemical peel?

For deep scarring subcision may help, very hard to get on the NHS though, would have to be causing depression I think - have a Google - there is an NHS page on it. Lines, dermal fillers, though this isn't a permanent solution but may make some improvement in the long term - again probably not easy to get on the NHS.

I've been to my GP recently about scarring - not acne scars but scarring that would benefit from the above and I've been told that while she will look at an NHS referral (scars were caused by an operation on the NHS and are unexplainable - as in where the scarring is had nothing to do with the op), she has told me not to get my hopes up that it'll go anywhere. I may have to pay private if I want results if I can't live with them.

Good luck OP, I can only imagine how it makes you feel :(

That is the best thing you could do. I'd mention all the points that you have raised here and l'd also suggest asking your GP if it would be appropriate for you to be referred to a specialist dermatological consultant, either now to in the future, to see if that would help. Good luck and l do hope that things get better for you. :)

Hi Good luck at the doctors And while you are waiting to see the doctor Could you get somebody to dab on some Calamine lotion On the spots on your back and neck. It's very soothing, antiseptic and may dry the spots out a little and hopefully reduce the pain a bit while you wait for your appointment

    What's stuck duck face?

Haha it's no the face a duck pulls when stuck, but the look given to women who have over Botoxed. Unable to move their face from the desired "look" they went for. No frowns, smiles or sadness....just the same stuck duck face. I say duck face as often these lady's go for lip fillers too.

,Never dry shave. Don't use multi blade razors. Never use shaving foam or gels all these things dry the skin and the subacious glands work over time to compensate. Use old style drop in razor blades that don't bow as much as ultra thin blades used in disposables. Use coco butter as a substitute for the foam. It's proven to put elasticity back into the skin reducing lines and wrinkles and scars, even stretch marks and it smells great. Or grow a beard.

Presumably to the OP who states that he is male.

Some of the suggestions seem a bit extreme. OP have you tried applying simply honey for 30 minutes twice a day? Honey has strong antibacterial properties and it is hygroscopic - which means that it draws out moisture. Rinse skin thoroughly to remove the honey. If the skin feels dry afterwards, apply a suitable cream.

    I didn't know that. I wouldn't recommend a chemical peel for a man

This is the best advice of all, otherwise you could end up in an even worse state.

I agree. When you see the GP you must insist on being referred to a dermatologist. You obviously are very upset about it so you must make the gp aware of this
If they are reluctant to refer you. If they refuse make another appt to see another gp in the same clinic . Please let us know how you get on

I had a friend who was terribly scarred by teenage acne and would still get outbreaks in his 20s, he trieds and array of lotions and potions, and I believe some microabrasion type treatment which helped a bit.

I would say though, that he revised his entire diet, cut out all refined sugars etc, and drank at least 2-3 litres of water a day, which really helped him long term. I'd certainly increase your water, a litre a day is nothing, I drink about 3 litres myself.

Yes when I went vegan my acne disappeared quite quickly. The scarring went when I lived on a Mediterranean island for a few years and got sunburnt a few times - obviously the sunburn is not good for skin cancer but it did help with acne scars.

I believe it's advised to some people. I remember him eating a heavy veg based diet, and also cutting out some saturated fats too.

I had a bad scar on the back of my neck from an operation as a teenager, after several months in Australia, in my 20s it vastly improved its appearance. Not ideal, I'll add, but it softened its appearance and evened out discoloration greatly, to the point it's barely noticeable now.

If you're looking for a home remedy, dermarollers are very good for scar revision.
