Blimey after Sophie died recently a thin looking Ginger cat is looking around al nervous I'll have to keep an eye out of course one day saw it at the back door but as soon as I stood up it ran a mile (approx) if I see that it looks very thin/ ill I'll leave food call the feds as needs :P
It's prolly just a neighbours cat wondering why it's still alive after having the cheek to be this close to Sophie I always used to manically chase other cats away but something stopped me this time, hmm
I see danger signs David...come on you know you want to
I can't have a cat though. I live on my own and am out at work all day.
Just found it on my bed again.
Cats look after themselves. So long as you feed it and give it a bit of attention when you are at home there will be no problems. I have 2 cats, I live alone and have to spend most of my days out now. I let my two out or if its raining they stay in. They are usually still asleep in the same place I left them hours before.

Sorry, I hadn't realised people were after updates.
Alas, I couldn't find an owner for Randy, either via the vets (no chip), or on the missing pets database. I got some paper collars from the Cats Protection League asking the owner to phone me but the first attempt Randy tried to slit my wrists and when I did get one on, he wasn't happy - he was trying to reverse out of it, which was like comedy tip-toeing in reverse! Anyway, it had disappeared when I got home from work.
So, I've been owned. He's gone from being timid to knowing when to turn on the affection - usually when the filet mignon comes out of the fridge... and he happily sleeps on my bed each night.
He's had some tiguvon, 'cos he's got a mild flea allergy (not seen any fleas though), and seems happy enough - very vocal when he's getting pettins.
Can't believe I have found this thread, I've just started one in GD! Basically a little black cat keeps trying to get into our house! She appeared in the garden a few weeks ago, and then last week my dad opened the door late at night and she ran inside! We already have two cats of our own so we put her out and tried to shoo her away, this morning she was back again and tried to get in. She wouldn't leave the garden all morning then disapeared for a few hours. Now she's back and trying to get back in!!
I think she's someone's pet. No collar, but shiney fur and looks well fed and healthy. Don't really know what to do?

If you can get her in a carrier try taking her to a local vets, sanctuary, RSPCA etc they should be able to scan her to see if she is chipped. Also Have a look further up this thread there are some pretty comprehensive advice on what to do in this situtaion, lost cat websites, notifying local agencies to see if reported lost etc.
***************REPOST OF #159 FOR THE LAZY (Looks at mirror)**********
I haven't read through the thread so apologies if I repeat anything you've already been told.
Vets don't charge for scanning for a microchip.
It sounds very likely that it could be your neighbours cat come *home*. Do you know where your neighbours moved to? Do you have a contact number for them?
Here is a list of things you can do to try and reunite this puss with it's owners...
Please check out the following list of missing kitties from the
national pet register - it is worth keeping an eye on the listing in
case he appears in the next few days:
Advice Cats Protection gives out when people think they have found a
cat (some may be helpful to you).
If you have a cat living with you or visiting and think is either
lost, abandoned, the owner has moved and left it behind, or appears to
be just roaming around, sadly all too common and to think the cats/s
was the result of someones so called good home, or you know of
anyone else with such a cat DO NOT ASSUME IT HAS NO OWNER (OR ASSUME
IT HAS), PLEASE REPORT IT TO AS MANY RESCUES AS POSSIBLE IMMEDIATELY
(see:- http://www.catchat.org/adoption/index.html) for some in your
area.
EVEN IF IT LOOKS IN PERFECT HEALTH, PLEASE THINK HOW YOU WOULD FEEL IF
YOU LOST YOUR CAT AND SOMEONE DID NOT BOTHER TO REPORT IT. It may
simply be lost and could have been lost months previously. It is not
unknown for cats to get into cars, removal vans, and so on, and be
transported miles from their homes. Rescues have hundreds of cats on
their lost/found register and the number increases on a daily basis.
Most of the cats who go missing must be out there somewhere and,
although we do manage to reunite quite a few with their owners, most
of them are taken in or being fed by well meaning people, but are
never actually reported. Depending on the condition of the cat and the
safety of the location rescues can decide what course of action to
take to ensure the cat receives all the help it needs. E.G. if the cat
is well please your local rescues and ask them to check the lost list,
take the cat to a vet to see if has been micro chipped.
If there is no record and the cat is well and not in a dangerous
location perhaps you could on a long thin piece of paper write do I
belong to you and your telephone number then attach the paper to a cat
collar by wrapping sellotape round and round then put the collar on
the cat if after 3 days you have received no reply take the collar off
as many are considered dangerous and many cats have lost their life to
them. Safer paper collars are available free from Cats Protection.
Ring the local rescues and ask them to put the cat on the list waiting
to come in. Please offer the cat shelter & feed it, I know some
organizations say don't and they it will move on, however in our view
that is callous, I am sure if you lost a pet it would be nice to think
someone, somewhere was caring for it.
Also the cat has a greater chance of finding its owner or coming into
care and finding a new permanent home, as it is not roaming from
street to street looking for its next meal and endangering its life.
If the cat appears below par please contact a local rescue immediately
and ask if they will pay for the cat to be seen by a vet and if
possible take the cat in.
So many people place a notice in a shop saying FOUND etc, please
remember that if the cat is going home even if only once a week as far
as the owner is concerned they have not lost it so may not realise you
are talking about their cat.
If the cat is timid and you cannot catch it most rescues have traps,
at least then the little one can be taken to the vets to scan, have a
MOT, flea and worm treatment etc, if unneutered Cats Protection can
give vouchers for the cost. If feral you could ask rescues to try to
find suitable homes for them. Although many cats people call feral are
in fact what I call garden cats and that is cats that were once
domesticated but then let down by society, these cats usually tame
down very quickly once in a home.

I disagree with the " welcome to cat owners" comments, someone who loves it could be really worried about it, please take it to a vet OP. My cat just went missing for a month and if it were me I'd want to know it was safe, please, for their peace of mind.
I live on my own too and work all day. That's why I got 2 cats, so they could keep each other company. Unfortunately, it didn't quite work out that way as they absolutely detest one another. The passing of years has not lessened the antipathy between them (they are both nearly 7 now), and I have to be so careful when I give one of them a fuss (dagger looks from the other from across the room), or a fight will ensue. Once you have a cat in your life, you will wonder how you ever coped without one before.
Hahaha that sounds familiar! My little'un can't understand why her big sister doesn't want to know her! OP all these working people are right though, cats are fine on their own during the day x
A random cat showed up in our back garden a few weeks ago. It used to meow against our windows at night and beg for food. If we leave a window open at night it will climb in, and if it can't climb in through the window it sits outside said window meowing.
It wasn't a neighbours cat or anything as nobody has moved in to or left the area for at least 18 months.
It's since been "adopted" by next door but it still keeps coming to up to us all the time. It hides in the bushes watching the rabbit run. Yesterday when i let the rabbit loose on the lawn to hop around, said cat came over and the rabbit chased it off!
