I'm Irish and i am not a fan so please do not put all Irish people into the same category. Its like saying all people from London like Eastenders.
If all family matriarchs are like Mrs Brown then you can book me a ticket onto the next Ryanair flight to Dublin. I prefer her to any miserable sod portrayed on EE.
You usual have some empathy for the main character but that is the programmes major problem - the main character. Some of the other characters are bareable but grandfather looked about a 35 year old actor in a beard!
Grandad doesn't have a beard... Have you watched this show?
Oh good, thought it was just me.
I have an extremely robust sense of humour, and an absence of prudery but I just find it vulgar to the nth degree.
That said, I accidentally (must have been in someone else's house) saw the episode where she gave herself a Brazilian in the cupboard under the stairs, and that brought tears to my eyes.
Otherwise, just rude without funny.
Maybe I'm getting old. Many years ago, I used to like people like Rick Mayall and Ben Elton who would use a lot of F words in their acts. My older relatives used to tell me that swearing isn't funny. I used to say it was just how people spoke, and even without the swearing, the jokes were still funny.
MBB seems to be the swearing, minus the jokes, unless I'm just the age now that those older relatives were then.
I've never understood the appeal. Says it all about the people who do find it funny.
I don't care whether or not people like the same tv shows as I do... but you do not slag the people who enjoy it. Please, take the mick out of the show but not the people who watch it. I find that it says more about you than it does about us.
Back on topic now... Me and the boyfriend love the show and as do our grandparents. We have found it is the people in between our ages and theirs who don't like it as much. We think younger people enjoy it as it reminds them kind of of their elders, grandparents and the like. Whereas with older people, it reminds them of people they know.
It's THE worst "comedy" BBC have EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER done!!! (that's saying something)
You don't remember The Royal Bodyguard, Are You Being Served?, Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em, Big Top, All Gas and Gaiters etc?
It seems to me like it's a lowbrow, innuendo-laden sitcom in the AYBS vein. And people rave about AYBS. TBH, I find this far funnier than that dated tripe.
I find it funny in places but I do think it's a very strange programme. There's obviously something about it which lots of people have really engaged with, but I find aspects like the musical sequences in the Christmas episodes a bit mawkish and contrived, plus the fact that most of the cast are related/married to each other off screen.
What gets me is that my 79 year old mother is a bit of a prude but she loves this programme whereas I just don't get it....
Yes I've noticed that - older people, particularly the ones who are normally against swearing on TV, etc. - seem to love it. There's something about the 'context' of the show which makes the swearing acceptable in their eyes.
Not read the thread but the title makes me want to say "No you're not the only one!!"
Tried to watch an episode once to see what everyone was raving about. Not sure I managed 5 mins before switching off.
The humour if that's what you call it is desperate at the best of times. There are only so many times you can laugh at someone braking the forth wall and swearing in an Irish accent. Don't even get me started on them protracted heart felt moments
Puerile attempt at humour - a sad waste of the license fee

In "today's" comedy? Why not, it is a classic set-up for comedy and always will be because when done properly is very funny.
Dame Edna, Old Mother Riley, Billy Dainty, Les Dawson, Kenneth Cope(In Carry On Matron) etc etc.
I've not watched any of it - seen clips and not really my thing but if it's funny for other people then good.

That's totally uncalled for.. Everyone has there own taste and some like it some don't..
I'm exceptionally happy being deluded.

Considering that many do seem to enjoy it, then it cannot be a waste of the LF
