    This has been the shortest gen so far in modern gaming, ie for xbox and playstation.

    Really?

    PS1 - 1994 ~ 2000 (1995 ~ 2001 here)
    PS2 - 2000 ~ 2006 (2001 ~ 2007 here)
    PS3 - 2006 ~ 2013 (2007 ~ 2013 here)

    Pretty equal all round, only the PS3 has stuck around longer in Japan and America. A LOT of people didn't really purchase a PS3 until around 2008/9 though which is probably why it seems shorter.

    How so?

    The PS2 Launched in 2000 and the ps3 2006/7
    The Xbox launched in 2000/1 and the 360 in 2005
