We want to play the game. Not just, hit button (x) now to kill.
It's never bothered me in fact, if anything for me, it adds more to the game than it takes away
If i could use an example that isn't tomb raider, Resident Evil 4 was the first time i ever encounter QTEs, a cutscene started and i stopped paying 100% attention to the game and i died
So i pressed continue and i paid attention to the cutscene, the button prompts came up i missed them, after that i knew i'd would have to be fully focused on the game even during the cutscenes, so QTEs had actually added to the game
And come on the QTE knife fight with Krauser is much more fun because you have to do the button presses rather than just watch
Maybe they should include an option to turn them off in games, if you can't do one or aren't quick enough to do them i could see how they might be a frustration
It's not a matter of not being quick enough, think I only missed one the entire game. It's just all too simple. You should be made to find a weak spot not be prompted to hit the right button at the right time or mash.
I didn't mind the QTEs in general but was a teeny bit miffed that the final boss fight that you had been building towards with several epic fights was just a QTE.

Yeah that bugged me a little bit. But on a whole the QTEs didn't bother me that much.
I'm actually really crap at QTE so I was pleased they were quite easy. I got the worst ending possible in Heavy Rain
If done right QTE are awesome and draw your into cut scenes and allow you to feel like you're doing and controlling something that would be impossible to achieve through standard gameplay.
However if done wrong QTE can be frustrating, infuriating and can detract from the story and flow of a game. QTE are too often used cheaply, without thought and too frequently.
Uncharted 1 provided a cinematic boss fight due to QTE
Uncharted 2 went with a run around and shoot boss fight because of complaints to UC1 QTE boss.
Uncharted 3 delivered a much better balance between the two.
Overall UC3 boss fights was better than UC1 which was better than UC2.
I really liked this Tomb Raider. I never really enjoyed the original games and never had any interest in finishing it. I suppose I get involved in the storylines rather than just playing.
Going by this, Rhianna Pratchett is a very good writer and I'm looking forward to playing more of games she's written for and I hope they make more of this series.
Also Lara is far more attractive in this game than previous ones. Deal with it
I was very satisfied with this new generation of 'Tomb Raider'. We got to see her become an adventurer and survivor, which gives the character some crediability story wise (which is what i love personally). I was also very fond of the extensive journal logs and artifacts that could be collected, which helped expand on the mysterious island while progressing through the game. The only drawback was that the combat was a bit rigid.
I hope another game is released because i would be happy to play more.

I've played the original on PSone back in the day. Really enjoyed it.
This reboot was one of the few games that grabbed me and made me sit and play until the end. It's a great reboot that was reliant on combat and not much actual tomb raiding but I found it extremely enjoyable anyway.
Especially liked the bow and arrow in it.Preferred it to the guns!
I hated hated hated the reboot and I hope they don't make another one. I agree it wasn't tomb raider it was some mash up of all the things Square Enix thought people would want. I want puzzles, tick. I want shooting, tick. I want red dead redemption , tick I want pseuedo open world, tick. I want linear, tick. I want Quick Time Events, tick. I want awesome predictable story, tick. I want it a bit like farcry a bit like unchartered, tick. I want a stealth game, tick. I want an action game, tick. I felt it was confused and let down its hard core fans.
Resident Evil 4 was the first time i ever encounter QTEs
QTE's actually go back quite far....!!! The first ever QTEs I saw were on the doomed Sega Dreamcast in the epic game Shenmue.
You would be chasing an enemy down the street, in a weird cutscene kind of way, when suddenly the QTEs would come onto the screen for you to complete so that your character would then dodge various things in the street.
In another scene - your character would be down the local arcade and there were 3 punch bags which you had to hit by completing various QTEs which were thrown up on the screen.
This game was epic........shame it got canned after Shenmue 3...... the story was never finished

Dragons Lair was probably the first game to use the QTE technique way back in the 80s

great post,100% agree on QTE in resi evil 4 enhancing the game
It was just square enix complaining. Their targets were ridiculously high. They expected Tomb Raider, Hitman: Absolution and Sleeping Dogs to be Call Of Duty size profits. They all sold well however so I do think we could see all three getting more games.
This is a new Lara Croft in a new universe, this has absolutely nothing to do with anything that has come before
It was a generic fighting game with a Lara Croft vague Tombraider skin on it.
Tombraider has always been about problem solving, exploring, the odd bit of shooty bang bang killing animals and the odd person.
The recent 'reboot' had minimal problem solving and was bloody in the extreme - which really was not Tombraider...I played the new one, enjoyed it but ignored the fact that it was Tombraider essentially as it was too far removed.
Now I like bloody in some games but in Tombraider the combat was never the main thing.
Do you think that there will be any more Tomb Raider games for current gen? I have not long got my PS3, so I won't be upgrading to next gen for a few years yet, and I don't want to miss out on Tomb Raider games as I love the series.
Doubtful there will be a new current gen TR. If they've said they're working on a next gen TR then that's what we're getting. Probably be early-mid 2015 before it comes out though.

Sequel seemingly confirmed by the person writing the comic spin off.

Enough of the QTE as mentioned above....note to all devs...please banish them forever!
Also, where are the puzzles! TR used to be about entering a big room, and going "ah....what now"
Now it's like a game on rails...press 'x' and then 'y'...shoot some bad guys...run through some scenery...and another QTE....etc.
I've had to engage my brain once in the first third.
It's still a nice enough game, but really...this isn't TR, it's just the Lara Croft character in a polished game with way too much hand-holding.
I must be from a different era of gaming, but I like my brain to be challenged.
Here's hoping the sequel isn't quite as dumb, but is at least as polished.
Guess I'm getting the new Playstation then.
