Anyone Else Not "Do Xmas"?

As the title. I don't do anything regards Xmas. No cards, no decorations, don't buy or receive presents, only having a meal on the 25th for my Dad's sake and treat the day as a normal day where possible, I have even volunteered for work in the past.

Only me and the wife at home so no pressure to "comply" with the norm. Anyone else a miserable sod then? :D

No, it's just you. You're the only person. Congratulations.

Actually that's not true at all, I'm just messing with you. You'll be in good company soon enough here. Alternatively, you could find one of the daily "Is it just me who doesn't like Christmas?" Threads and join in those.

    All the best x

    Well there is that :)

I do christmas to a point. Presents for immediate family and a few days at my mums but that's it. The rest of it is of no interest to me.

No where are those other threads ? :)

I'm atheist. I couldn't care less about it.

I don't buy into the commercialisation of it either or the "having" to visit family you don't care about, "having" to eat turkey, "having" to spend silly amounts of money you may or may not have in order to conform to society because, well... because it just is.

For those that go nuts, why? Do you really need such a huge turkey, all the sweets and junk? Do you really need or want to see aunty/uncle so and so who you don't see from one month to the next? Can you really afford £200 on presents per child? Do you really want or need to send out huge amounts of cards to people you once knew or see once in a blue moon?

I don't do it, tell people not to get me anything every year, but they still do, really p*sses me off.

Why do anything unless you really need to eh?

OP, why not volunteer to work every year? It would help your colleagues who do celebrate it.

It's like quicksand. If you don't get out early, you're soon up to your neck in it and done for from then onwards.

I don't do "Xmas", whatever that is, but I do do Christmas. Although there are some parts I don't bother with, such as sending cards or putting up decorations.

I certainly have done in the past, the place I work now shuts down for 2 days so no option but to take the time off.

My Dad's health is failing fast so need to be with him on the day for his sake but if he was not here I would probably seek out some were to volunteer for the day.

I 'do' it because I enjoy it. If you don't, that's fine as well.

I suppose I'm lucky to have a close family that I see fairly regularly... so it's not as if Christmas is the only time I see them.

I'm a miserable sod all year round so not trying to outdo anyone!:D

I presume it was some magnetic force that made you click into this thread?:p

You can look forward to all the New Year threads in a similar vein next week!

    Next year I plan to make a few jumpers - enough to last, say, December - with;

I'M NOT CHRISTIAN DON'T TALK TO ME ABOUT XMAS written on them.

But every year I get caught up in it, to a degree, and it's nice seeing old friends etc. Joy woo yeah Xmas.

I'm beginning to dislike it more as every year passes. Stupid people going absolutely crazy trying to get what they want and sod everyone else. I'm talking about shopping areas, retail parks etc. I only wanted to buy some basic groceries today, yet some pillock decided they would race into a parking spot before I could get to it even though I was already turning into it!

Then there is the cost of Christmas, going to see relatives of my partners I don't particularly like and all of these Christmas themed TV shows. There are also the people who use it as an excuse to booze even more, eat even more and generally over indulge.

I do really love the "Holidays are comin'.... holidays are comin" Coca-Cola advert, that always makes me feel Chrismassy. (?) I saw it a lot as a child, I think.

I just don't have it in me to pretend to be stupendously unbelievably happy for no reason. I enjoy wearing pyjamas for longer than usual and not having to do any work, and loads of films on TV. Nice seeing kids enjoy themselves. *shrug*

It's impossible to not do Christmas when you've a family you love, you get caught up in the excitement of it all, wrapping little gifts for them, decorating the house to look all cheery, baking lots of nice food, cosying up together on the sofa to watch festive films,
It's dark, windy and grim outside. Inside smells of mince pies, stollen and wine, with sparkly lights and tinsel everywhere so I'm kinda glad really that I do get caught up in it and do christmas, it makes December much more bearable.

It's personal choice and nothing to do with being a miserable sod. Good for you caring about your Dad.

I do nothing for Christmas either, no cards, decorations, presents etc.

Feel it is all a bit of a con to be honest.

I "do Xmas" but I don't "do New Years Eve". Maybe I should start a thread and see if I'm the only one ;-)

I don't even do New Year.

Would help if the New Year was the winter solstice as it would be the genuine start to a new year and something those of us on this latitude and higher could celebrate - the sun returning. That's that bright round thing hidden behind the clouds this last week, if anyone's forgotten :-(
