I would have thought the fact that he spent 2 months in LA in Jan/Feb this year would be a hint that he clearly doesn't have long term plans to stay with the show.

Well he's been there since 2010. Even 4 years can be a long time for a young character these days. I think Chris could stay if he wanted even though he really doesn't have any ties. Kind of like Leah on H&A when she first started and that was in 2000.
Did anybody notice yesterday that Kyle told Amy he went to Erinsborough High?? even though he comes from and grew up in Frankston!
Yeah he did go to Erinsborough High, he is same year as Ringo, Declan, Zeke, Bridget, Donna and others, he is a bully until he became regular cast then he change his ways.
Didn't he have a crush on Kate or something when they were all at the same school? I remember him being the school bully but it was years ago and I'm forgetful these days.

It was nice that they had him as a bit of an idiot, that provided entertainment, since the writers fazed it out he really has become a very boring character.

He did go to Erinsborough High in the days of Toby Mangel and Dorothy Burke.
