Windows Update would usually download an audio driver for you. You could try finding what type of audio it is: Intel HD audio or Realtek etc. Apart from that the only methods I can recommend are illegal.

Have a look at the underside of the laptop. Note the model number. Go to the manufacturer's website, download drivers for your model. Install and restart.

Not sure what you are on about.

I don't use any programmes from there.

Just search for the driver you need.

If they have it then it is free to download.

Straight from the manufacturers website is usually a good place to get the drivers....or the actual hardware maker such as graphics, chipset, networking etc.

after hours & hours of trying to fix this prob i've come to the conclusion that it's not the drivers afterall:rolleyes:

i think one of my daughters has downloaded something that's compromised the audio so i've deleted all recently downloaded items but still no sound.

when i go the control panel and click on audio i get the error message windows host Rundll32 has stopped working.

if anyone else has any suggestions i'd be grateful - cant get used to surfing with no music:cry:

    thanks again:)

You might first want to use system restore and 'roll back' the laptop a week (or day) to a point before the problem existed. It might be that simple to cure!

otherwise give us the laptop model and audio chipset and maybe we can assist.

As orbital suggests, if you have it available then try system restore and roll back to a point where you know the drivers were working.

the only restore point i've got available is from 26/12/10, it won't let me go back any further because i don't think the pc was set up to have restore points.

    it's a packard bell easynote tj65 model ms2273

i'm not sure how to tell what audio drivers i've got but when i go on the control panel/sound it says i've got no window audio devices. i go to install them & it gives me the windows host rundll32 has stopped working message.

i've gone into device manager & for sound it's got drivers as Intel r hdmi. everything appears to be set up ok tho:confused:
