With premier league games back on monday nights, will this mean less league games on sky next year? If so, could BBC show any more?

No, they only signed the new contract last season. More likely we'll see a return to Friday nights on a regular basis.

The current football league contract will continue until the end of the 2011 / 2012 season.

Therefore BBC will show 10 live championship games and Sky Sports will show 65 live games from the entire football league including the play off's - http://www.live-footballontv.com/football-tv-rights-uk.html

You also have to remember that there won't be a Monday night premier league match every week, Sky will continue to counter-program espn's Saturday evening matches, and Sky often show matches on Sunday's and Friday's.

Probably means midweek Football League regular season fixtures will be shown live (which didn't happen in the season just gone, at least).

The BBC should not be showing any Football League matches. They could put this money towards fulfilling there Public Service remit by showing sports such as Cricket. There is no need to show yet more Football which in this case is of a low standard and very minimal interest to most.

More people watch the football league than watch cricket so how do you back your theory of minimal interest up?

Indeed, in fact the football league show on BBC1 is actually very healthily viewed.

And don't forget, the BBC's contract with the Football League also gives them the ability to show two League Cup Semi Final matches per season as well.

As I believe, the Aston Villa v Blackburn and Manchester City v Manchester City games both had decent audiences as well.

Then we'd just get a load of people whinging saying 'why do we have to put up with 5 days of cricket for about 7 hours a day, what about my precious daytime tv?!!!' etc. Also, the Championship isn't of a low standard, and nor is it of very minimal interest to most. Maybe you ought to bear in mind as well, that with cricket, it rains.......that means having filler programmes.........but then that means possibly having to cut into those filler programmes if they come back on during the filler. Also it's likely that unless it was the Ashes, most people wouldn't be that interested in watching cricket for the best part of 7/8 hours a day.

Don't remember that ever happening, from memory. More likely is a more frequent showing of Friday Night Football.

I remember it happening the odd time in the past. I suppose if there is a midweek with no champions league, internationals, league cup or premier league games we could see the odd fl game on tue/wed or thurs nights ?

BBC should take up the Blue Square rights for next season... commitment to "grass roots" football - ideal for midweek game viewing on BBC3 ...... and not cost too much....

For the record Sky actually show 80 live FL games in total - 65 regular season games (45 Championship + 20 L1/L2) + all 15 Play-off games.

BBC's cricket coverage was awful. Sky's cricket coverage is absolutely fantastic. Sky is (and always should be) the home of cricket.

I thought sky had all the Premiership rights starting from next season?

No one broadcaster can have the rights to all the Premiership matches under EU law.

Sky have acquired Package C which ESPN held for the 2009/2010 campaign which allows them to broadcast 23 third choice matches on Saturday at 5.15, Sunday at 1.30 or Monday at 8.00

ESPN still have Package E which allows them to broadcast 8 second choice matches on Saturday at 5.15, Sunday at 1.30 or Monday at 8.00 and 15 fourth choice matches on Saturday at 5.15, Sunday at 1.30 or Monday at 8.00
