Former Corrie actor and singer Adam Rickett has revealed he is suffering from Ankylosing Spondilitis. Which is a debilitating condition and causes the spine to fuse together.

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/real-life-stories/adam-rickitt-dont-run-10-3222329

I have read this article with my mouth open at the rubbish that has been printed about this condition. Adam says he has to run 10 miles a day and do 1000 sit-ups or he will end up in a wheelchair.

This is complete nonsense he will actually wear out his joints and cause more damage by doing this kind of ecsessive exersicse.

How do I know well I suffer from the exact same condition and so does my father. As the condition is Heredity. I will agree that the conditon is painful no doubt in that but me and my father have never been told that we could end up in a wheelchair.

You need to excersie yes but gentle streatching and specific excersises are what you have to do with this conditon. Not run a marathon everyday, my dad is now coimg up 69 and he is now having problems with his knee, it's all linked to this conditon and he may need a replacement soon.

The Mirror have gone for the sensationlist headline with this story and printed a lot of miss information. It's not as rare as you think there are thousands of people in this country with this condition.

Your disease is not my disease.

What works for one, wont work for another.
My ex does loads of exorcising and kept it at bay. My friend did nothing and her spine fused and crushed her organs.

My son has had no problems since he smoked pot.. everyone is different. :)

True but he is overdoing it, excersise of course you must do that but he WILL wear out his knees doing this. My dad went for a check up only yesterday and mentioned this artice as it first appeared in the Sunday Mirror. The specialist said he had read it and told dad this guy was going about dealing with this the wrong way. Gentle regular exersise is what you need to do. As the conditon can affect every single joint in the body not just the spine. My dad is fused but he is upright, due to his excersises.

I suppose getting rid of evil spirits is one alternative treatment. :D

I think everyone deals with things in their own way. Young people will fight it, older people will listen more to advice ( not always the case of course, as seem by my two examples ) My son had to give up playing his loved football as his knees were suffering badly :(

My freind was in the sitting position even standing up.. Great shame as she would not go to the Dr and been seen. :(

You know I kept looking at it knowing it was wrong, but could not think how to fix it. I hate FF spell check! Google spell check always knew what I wanted to say. :D

I'm pleased you wrote it as you did. Brings a bit of light relief to a serious topic.:)

Anyone doing 1000 sit-ups a day will end up with a knackered back, Ankylosing Spondilitis or not!! Utterly ridiculous think to spout.

Apparently, cannabis has anti-inflammatory properties. I have a client with ankylosing spondylitis and many other conditions (caused by the presence of the HLA-B27 gene) and he finds it helps no end. His consultant is trying to get approval for him to be prescribed the pharmaceutical version.

Surprised his future good lady wife hasn't done something for Daybreak about it?

He also "opened up" about his condition about 3 or 4 years ago on This Morning, obviously he didn't have a crappy pop group to promote then

If he did admit that, then it might explain his excessive exercising.

I'd expected to read that the "condition " he had was that he'd turned orange.

Maybe if it was not such a sensationlist article he could have done some good with bringing the condition forward. There are quite a few famous people who have this condition.

Mike Atherton, Lee Hurst, Ian Woosnam, Bryan Gunn, Mick Mars (guiartist with Motley Crue).
