Excellent article on Cameron's proposals, mirroring the questions I have on the impending creep being used which could see pornography being made illegal as well as search engine word blocks being extended beyond 'child abuse':

    http://paulbernal.wordpress.com/2013/07/22/10-questions-about-camerons-new-porn-blocking/

Dangerous times for liberty and freedom, all under the guise to protect 'the innocence of children'.

Very interesting indeed. Would a list of "opt-in's" be more susceptible to government or police suspicion I wonder ?

Watching porn is not a perversion. Since most people will have watched porn before, many even watch it regularly. A perversion is something outside the norm, which that isn't.

    This is true.
Does that also mean that those outside the norm, the ones that don't watch porn are in fact the true perverts.
I must say I think I have always suspected as much, with there backward prudish ways thinking everything is dirty.:D

What with all the spying etc that's come to the fore recently, it's about time we all encrypted and made private our internet connections by default. This move by the government is only going to push us further in that direction.

Considering that so many games sites are linked to the porn industry, no doubt they will be blocking games sites too just in case there is a back door!

Christ on a bike, it wont be long before the only thing you can access online are Wikipedia, the bbc and shopping sites!

Parts of Wikipedia have been blocked before in the UK so there is a good chance that more of it will be blocked again if this new law comes into play.

"Vicar orders porn" "Police Suspect Has Porn Opt In" "Scout Master signs up for filth" "Chief of Police in porn shocker".

I can see why the media want this!

This site will be banned too! To many deviants and dissidents, better to prevent them from discussing how moronic censorship is! We'll be the new China! DS will go back to discussing technology only, the mods will be legally obliged to sanitise the site beyond recognition! :D

You won't have to opt in to buy that Shades of Grey 'mummy porn' book, tthough. You know, the one that was stacked high in every supermarket, within easy reach of any child, a short while ago.

    Oh thank god for that.

    Entertaining in what way?

I daresay he doesn't, if what you say is true - that he has no interest in porn I mean. But most people do not stop masturbating in a long term relationship; they just masturbate less frequently. Lucky that the two of you found each other though, there can't be many men like your husband nowadays. Or indeed women, come to think of it.

I wish the government would **** off and leave people to do what they want. Provided you're not directly hurting anyone else there is no reason for them to get involved.

What does hubby do when it's your time of the month? :p

Hush now, clearly their sex drives are perfectly synchronized. If only they could tell the rest of us how to achieve that...

One thing I bet he doesn't do is wait til she pops out to the shops, then fire up the incognito browser and browse porntube. ;)

Seriously though, I just can't imagine dating a guy who either doesn't masturbate or isn't grown up enough about sex to admit to it. I'd be scared that I'd never get laid or that he'd have a weird attitude to sex or something.

I'm a bit late to this conversation and the weekend has been a drunken haze. Is this something that is just being spoken about or something that is definately happening?

Dave seemed to be talking about child porn this weekend and condemning it, but as of today the issue has become all porn. Yes it seems to be happening.

They've basically been pressuring ISPs to voluntarily introduce opt-ins to explicit content. But the ISPs haven't gone for that (or at least not all of them) so now the government will try to legislate for it and force them to.

Somehow I can't see this getting through parliament on grounds of censorship.

The Lib dems and other liberal MP's are bound to fight this.

If parents want to stop kids seeing pornography why don't they install child safety software, oh no that would would mean they would have to do some parenting

So even if you opt in for just regular girl and guy, girl on girl, guy on guy. The government are going to be aware. Isn't that 1) make people feel like some kind of sexual deviant for no reason and 2) drive the worst stuff even deeper underground.

Tell you what might be fun....

Once this ban/block is in place, let's have a concentrated campaign to report every instance where the DM website publishes pictures of a scantily-clad female as part of some "public interest" story.

    Definitely happening.

I'll be signing up for the porn. I'm not into anything weird or nasty so what do I care? If they really want to take an interest they don't need a porn filter to track what people are doing on the Internet. It can all be tracked at ISP level, or just beyond ISP level if necessary, regardless of "private" browsing settings.

Sadly kids are all over porn in a way they just weren't when I was growing up. And the idea that most parents are fit to stop most kids from doing what the chose on-line is laughable. Should the government be trying to censor the Internet? No, of course not, but they do a bunch of stuff I disagree with so why should this be any different?

It'll be interesting to see how this pans out for people who don't make a decision or decide to take the porn filter. We're not going to lose Page 3, but will some general entertainment sites get black-listed if they post the odd NSFW video?
