If so it would be great. They just need a decent song. A really epic song along the lines of Call the Shots or Untouchable would be perfect. Plus they would have nothing to lose as a group if they didn't do well. I presume Cheryl would just go back to her solo career.
I don't think they would even consider it. Not only would it be a massive milestone of failure around their necks if they placed low, the very fact they were doing Eurovision in the first place would be a big enough "look how far they have fallen" stigma all on it's own.
Established acts don't enter Eurovision because the UK very rarely do well.. Blue did good on the Televote and would have hit #5 in the tally but slipped back down to #11 with the judge vote combined.. I think if we sent Adele to sing Someone Like You in the massive hype she had last year, we still wouldn't have won and established acts dont want to risk their career

Ah yes but Jade Ewen only came 10th with the public and 3rd with the juries a few years back, so it can go either way. Swings and roundabouts. We just need to send a song that will appeal to both like Euphoria did this year.
Girls Aloud could do that with the right song and if their vocals were alright.
(Not that there is ANY chance of them doing it of course)
Unfortunately, the do choose to sing live on most occassions, if they do mime then they need to shoot the sound technician that makes Sarah Harding sound like a cat being stood on by a Rhino

It's against the rules of the competition to mime. But they would need an extremely good Xenomania song if they actually considered going in for it...

And what about Cheryl? She sounded dreadful at the Jubilee concert. Someone on one of the threads about said concert said she sounded like a live pig being passed through a mincer

Only in the UK because we have such a high opinion of ourselves. The rest of Europe take Eurovision deadly serious. Its a huge event in the likes of Sweden. That is why they always do so well.
Other countries use their top pop stars to represent them
Not really. Most countries just send the same sort of singers as the UK. Let's take a look at 2012:
Ireland: Jedward (Novelty act from X Factor)
Norway: Tooji (TV Presenter)
Denmark: Soluna Samay (Unknown singer)
Finland: Pernilla (Unknown singer)
Portugal: Filipa Sousa (Talent show reject)
France: Anggun (Once quite big in the 90s)
Germany: Roman Lobb (Talent show winner, previously unknown)
Netherlands: Joan Franka (Talent show reject)
Switzerland: Sinplus (Unknown group)
Cyprus: Ivi Adamou (Talent show reject)
Turkey: Can Bonomo (Not well known)
Spain: Pastora Soler (Once big in the 90s)
Malta: Kurt Calleja (Only ever taken part in Malta's Eurovision NF's)
Greece: Eleftheria Eleftheriou (Talent show reject)
It's also worth noting that Eurovision is more popular in the UK than in France, Belgium, Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Portugal, Italy, Poland, Turkey, Russia, Ukraine and Israel.
Other countries use their top pop stars to represent them and it's something the UK should be doing.
Not always. Loreen wasn't well known before she won the last one with Euphoria. Now she has released her debut album (which is actually really good - if you like Loreen go and buy it!).
I have major doubts about sending Girls Aloud. Firstly half of each countries votes come from a professioanl music jury who reward perfect vocals and who tend to look down on 'cheap pop'. Girl bands/boy bands have usually struggled at Eurovision and Girls Aloud don't have reputations for good live singing.
Secondly they may be a huge name in Britain but Ireland is the only other place this group had had big success.

but it would for some high profile acts of old and new wish to gain high profiles and fanbases in Europe (west and east), UK and Australia
my top suggestions would be
Sugababes (Jade, Amelle, Heidi)
McFly
Jamie Callum
Alexandra Burke
Hot Chip
Lemar
Scissor Sisters

Most countries have the exact same opinion as the UK - A fun entertainment show - it's just that they don't whinge and moan about it.
As I mentioned in my other post, Eurovision is more popular in this country than in a lot of other countries.
Secondly they may be a huge name in Britain but Ireland is the only other place this group had had big success.
That doesn't really matter. The vast majority of artists that take part in Eurovision are unknown outside of their home country.
Sending a big name is more to do with creating hype and interest in the home country more than anything else.

Javine? Anyone? You've never forgotten Javine ...
I remember her. I liked her single Real Things.
