no thanks Im an independent women I can go on my own....I find politics fasinating so Im going for that reason
Politics is fascinating but this film isn't about politics.
Basically, this is a defanged, declawed, depoliticised Margaret Thatcher, whom we are invited to admire on the feeble grounds that she is tougher and gutsier than the men - Peter Bradshaw in the Guardian

It was a good film - Streep was brilliant. But I do think it might have been better to wait until after she'd died to make the film - as it was a slightly sanitised account.
I didn't know there were scenes of "Maggie now" in the film so when i see it, its those i am looking forward to seeing most.
also just because the thatcher family declined an offer to see the movie doesnt neccessarily mean it is a bad movie or they disapprove it. a lot of fictional and biographical movies have been made on margaret thatcher in the past, so they may just see it as "one of many"

I think Carol came across well in the film, more so than Mark though.
The makers of the film had no right to base the narrative of the film around the mental illness of this woman. An uncomfortable experience, I had no idea this was a film about dementia and may have decided not to go had I known.
The acting was brilliant though, at times it felt too real. I just feel the focus of the film was disrespectful. Completely agree with the views of David Cameron, way too soon for a film like this to be made.
First off, it has to be said Meryl Streep is amazing - I don't want to jump on the Meryl Streep adoration bandwagon but there's no denying that her performance is perfect!
However, the film falls a bit flat. It all comes across a bit dull and seems to tread water behind closed doors and drawn curtains too much. The use of Dennis popping up becomes tiresome and lazy. Quite often scenes seem to be there to for Meryl to make historical statements rather than show a character develop.
On the plus side, Olivia Colman is subtle and sweet as Carol Thatcher and the period feel of each time shown is done well and doesn't scream 70s 80s etc etc.
All in all it's in no way a bad film, just a bit "oh is that it"

I thought it was very badly edited - a lot more thought should have gone into the structure and pacing of the film.
saw the film earlier and thought it was a good film. To those who say its not about politics I would like to disagree. Politics isn't just about the political parties, policies, governments etc but its also about the personalities within it, Thatcher was one of those and her beliefs and ideas shaped our country for over 11 years, some of it still felt today. The film was trying to give you some perspective of her thoughts and feelings.I, being from a working class background, who has voted Labour almost felt guilty because I felt sorry for her, she did try to do what she thought was best and in the end she was betrayed by her own party. I have studied the Thatcher era fairly well, she did a lot of policies I disagree with, my family indeed my nan really dislike her and don't feel anything for her, the film gave me a lot to think about. I would never vote tory, and as Ive said she did do a lot I disagree with but at the same time the film gave you her perspective of why she did it. Its given me a lot to think about!
overall 7.5/10. Meryl Streep was very good as her.
I'm confused. At the end of the trailer, Meryl is surrounded by men in black tie and she states 'Gentlemen, shall we join the ladies?'. It wasn't in the film. Why put a scene in the trailer that doesn't make the final film?

it might make the director's cut / alternative ending / extended versions when it come out on true blue ray

A lot of trailers feature scenes that don't make the final cut - usually because the trailer is released before the film has been finished.
Sorry if you've heard this before, even if it has been in this thread, but the reason this film is a 12 is that some scenes are not suitable for "miners"(first heard on FB from the heart of what used to be the ayrshire mining community - no mining left, but the black sense of humour survives,as well as a community spirit.).

I haven't seen the film yet but I look forward to it. By the way, I don't recall Thatcher ever wearing a hat in the House of Commons.
