HI i have just moved to another area of the UK, after living there for several years
but now i want to open a basic bank account, but i have no proof of me living in the new area. as it has only been a couple of weeks..
I never had a bank account in my old area, as my partner had it in her name, and now she has died.. so how can i open an account ???
thanks in advance..

Just apply here http://personal.natwest.com/personal/current-accounts/compare-current-accounts/basic-account.html
You will need to have both, either forget about the savings or close it down.
Either way it doesn't cost you anything so just leave it be.
Don't bother to take your birth certificate if it's Lloyds; they'll (literally) throw it back across the desk at you and tell you it could have been purchased anywhere for 50p
I had a savings account with Natwest for 15 years but they changed how the debit card worked so opened a basic account and still had to prove who I was when I saw them face to face

I showed my passport and Council Tax bill and they still asked for another document so showed my full photocard UK driving licence as well so they are far stricter than they used to be.
How is that going to encourage small savers??.
That way you will know for sure
thanks and to all other reply,s
You cannot pay online using a basic account and you cannot use a basic account on any other back ATMs, you can only use the a basic account card with the bank you are with.
Thats now wrong.natwest now allow you to use any atm also i have payed online with my basic account natwest card. It doesnt have a cheque book or overdraft tho.
That's wrong. I've had a basic account with Lloyds for a couple of years now and it came with a debit card that is perfectly usable online. Now I can even take out cash from any ATMs.
Totally wrong, you can pay online, you can use them at any link ATM, its just like any other account really.
