  It's a Samsung GT-I5500
  To be honest, I'm not that keen on the phone. My husband bought it for me for Christmas so I feel obliged to use it.

  Thanks for that. Good to know I wasn't doing something wrong with the phone!
  
  I will get my husband to return the phone to the shop he got it from and hopefully resolve the problem.
