Al Jazeera English is launching in HD on Freeview HD next year, via one of the two interim Freeview HD muxes using the 600 MHz frequency band, which has been dormant since digital switchover. I can't imagine it being Freeview HD only, so a contender for Sky and Freesat.
According to Arqiva, the Freeview HD muxes will be rolled out by mid 2014 to reach up to 70% of UK households.
It would make sense to put the HD version on satellite. I wonder when that will be?
I don't think I've commented on one of these threads before because I don't have Sky, even so I find it interesting to see what new channels are coming (or closing).
Thanks Radio Rudderham, and I'm glad it's continuing under a new 'owner'
I forget where it is but I now notice that off the EPG controversial TV is on black (instead of the programmes start at 2100h message) finally bitten the dust completely?
After 10yrs I have decided it is time to stop and do other things with my Thursdays
But do not fear I am handing the reins over to jimbo who has assured me he will take good care of you and your thread.
I will of course pop in and out from time to time to see what is going on and to say HI!
But for now THANK YOU to everyone that has helped my to make it the success that it is.
Take care and again thank you....
Over to you now jimbo!
Thank you RR for all of your hard work and to all the regular posters here (past and present!) over the last 10 years! Been a pleasure to get my geeky weekly fix of techie TV news. All the best for the future and heres to Jimbo tomorrow

Now back to the "Programmes start at 21.00 hours" message.
In light of UTV announcing they would be putting their HD version on 103 for HD subscribers in Norhtrn Irfeland, I asked the BBC if they had any similar plans.
The other day, I got a letter back from BBC Northern Ireland, which said after the intro:
"Channel numbers on electronic programme guides (EPGs) will differ depending on how you access your television services. The order in which channels appear is a matter for each digital provider. However, we are looking at the EPG positioning of BBC One NI HD on some platforms, including Sky."
(The italics and bold were not in the letter, I have just hilighted that to draw attention to it).
Just wondered what people make of that as it throws a completely different view of the situation and possibly a change in the future - at least that is how I read it.
I don't want the thread to get clogged with posts of thanks. But I feel I must pay credit to RR for all his hard work over the years.
From more of a lurker than a poster, it is greatly appreciated, as is the general contribution of information from everyone and of course to Jimbo for carrying on the great work.
