Am I the only one who believed Brian didn't know who Shakespeare was?

I am in a minority of one so far as I can see. I can understand the reasons which people are giving for their disbelief, but I believed him- on first hearing at least.

There is no way he can't have even heard of Shakespeare at school, especially when he's only 19 and it won't have been long ago.
He's either really as thick as two short planks, and uneducated, or putting on a really great act...
But not everyone does school!
Or he never attended English lessons.
I believe everything Brian says as he's not intelligent enough to lie.
He was most probably down at Lakeside shopping the day Shakespeare was discussed.
He's a cutey. I like him.
I don't dislike the bloke, though.
I don't think that he can act that well either.
Yes I'm with you here. It's hard to dislike him, he just seems so genuine.
However, I do think it's sad that people try to endear themselves to the general public by trying to appear more stupid than they are. And it always seems to work, what does that say about the intelligence of the public.
He was however intelligent enough to win a place at university. Quite a feat.
is that true or do you assume that everyone does shakespere?
i agree, i was thinking that myself, as if he were pretending to be that stupid, there would be a pause where he thinks of something to say
You don't have to have gone to RADA to act a bit thick.
