I'd go for Emmet J Scanlan, who was Brendan Brady in Hollyoaks until not long ago.
Amazing actor, though I think he's trying his luck in LA right now.
Dunno whether it would work in his native Irish accent though ...
Whoever it is and whenever it is I would love them not to reveal it until the actual regeneration takes place .. Could they do it and keep it a secret until broadcast ? Sadly in these days I think it's doubtful but imagine the ratings they would get !
i'd still love to see richard coyle
those "in the know " will say" this smith bloke is just a place holder and that paterson joseph will be revealed to be the next doctor just like we always told you":D
As I said in the other thread it will be Adrian Lester; BBC, 50th anniversary, inclusivity, multiculturalism, modern Dr Who, modern Britain, nailed on.
BTW congrats to Ronnie O'Sullivan on winning his 5th World Snooker title!
I like Damien a lot (he's currently in Ireland filming Series 2 of Ripper Street) but after Matt, it might be a better idea to have an older Doctor again.

And as *I* said in the other thread - Adrian Lester would be a great choice, he's a fantastic actor. And fit!
And a bit older, as well, so that would be good.

Doctor Who? has just taken on a whole new meaning.

Edit: Any of the male leads in Misfits could make a decent doctor actually..Nathan especially, and the guy who was in This is England.
not to sure now though, the producers will pluck some 25 year old out of an obscure sitcom i reckon..

Richard Blackwood?
Hugh Laurie would be great, especially if he played the Doctor like he did Bertie Wooster. What ho, Clara!
He's point blank said in interviews that he doesn't want the role and there are better choices out there to be honest.
