I think tonight was the first time they've shown such a wide angle of the street

I hadn't noticed until now that the office windows in the factory actually look into the packaging department, lol.

All this talk of supermarkets etc reminds me of something we used to discuss a few years ago when a set move or upgrade was being talked about. One of the original ideas was to create an entire "town centre" for Weatherfield which would include Frescos, a nightclub/bar (this was probably realised as Nick's Bistro), police station, court house/town hall and, quite surprising, Bessie Street School.

Now they have moved to the new location there is still plenty of room for more backlot and the one thing that is missing so far is the ability to film a small town centre scene as these were always filmed at Quay Street to the right of the old tour entrance (remember Izzy's attack by the cashpoint?)

The town centre stuff could be put behind the Rosamund Street viaduct, I already suspect that the Flying Horse might be placed around there somewhere.

Also the area where Nick found Kylie working in the Strip Club when she ran away.

Further back this area is where Sally had an affair with Ian Davenport (his showroom was in one of the arches) and I think the casino was based around there, too.

The set looked massive in that shot with the funeral car!

still think those upstairs windows in the houses look silly in the middle of each house instead of over the bay windows

the factory on the old outdoor set was originally just a small facade with the entrance hall and a view straight up into the tower, it was extended piece meal over the years to house dun-2-a-t then the factory until it outgrew itself and moved inside the studio, apparently the cast hated it as it was not very easy to heat. Kevin's garage was originally meant to be a loading bay. actually the garage is incorrectly addressed as unit 12 when we already have a number 12 (the flat above the rear of the kabin) when Baldwin brought the garage in 1992 it was unit 16, underworld is unit 14

on TV forum some people have mentioned going on the old set tour and as well as visiting the old set have walked down to the old studio tours entrance but when I've been that area is closed off, has anybody else been and gone down that end

I noticed there seemed to be quite a few wider shots of the street tonight, looks like they're finally starting to stop hiding the fact that its a new set now, lol.

I think that area is only open at weekends for the Old Granada Markets; it was closed off to the public when I paid a visit to the former set in April.

Wanted to see the area where the first outdoor set stood.

Isn't that the area being used for ITV's Fever Pitch at the moment?

I just saw this pic of the new set from afar, I noticed what looks like a false interior on the Rosamund Street facade
    http://i.imgur.com/mjJQScU.png
So it looks like whatever is being built there might be used in the show.

I made a seperate thread for this, because not everyone visits this one, but the new street was visible in a behind the scenes video on ITV.com

The promo for Coronation Street was filmed on 3rd June so hopefully it won't be too long before we see the vastly improved backdrop on screen.

Will look a little daft when for years we knew it as this, mind:

Then again, that facade spent the best part of its existance hidden behind a Newton and Ridley's truck, only ever really appeared in the opening titles, lol. I kind of like the look of what we can see, it looks more like what type of street you'd expect to see in Manchester, I wonder if it will be refered to as Mawdsley Street? Another thought is, perhaps it will be refered to as where Roys Rolls/The Kabin used to be on Rosamund Street.

I wonder what buildings we can expect on this new street, I can't quite work out what the sign on the shop visible says.

I'm probably showing my age now (!) but alongside Jim's Cafe and The Kabin what about Sunliners, the former travel agents?

Fingers crossed it leads to being constructed as a 3d set with interiors for on-location filming.

That's the area I meant :) it'd be cool if they reincoperated it into the show.

Well Jim's Cafe became Roy's Rolls so it would be good if they carried on with the 1990s ;-)

There has been two Roys Rolls hasn't there? One on Rosamund Street, and one on Victoria Street

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear; I'm referring to the interior set. :o

And that suspiciously looks like the side of the Corner Shop on Viaduct Street!
