Anyone know if this is the end, will there be a new series set in Scotland
The ep shown on Monday was the last of the current series; one more series will be filmed, with Amanda, Alun, Dennis and Denis. After that both Amanda and Alun are leaving.
There is much speculation as to whether 'Scots UCOS' will be created - but that's all it is so far -speculation:)

The episode broadcast on Monday was actually postponed from the previous week through the Media Frenzy over Jimmy Saville ... and the final episode presented within its place.
Given that Alun Armstring and Amanda Redman will be leaving the series, it is plausible that Star Wars Alumni Denis Lawson (he played Red in Star Wars 4) and Dennis Waterman will appear within any series if commissioned.
I will miss the actors from the series, particularly James Bolam.

Indeed. The thought of Waterman shouting his way through another show fills me with gloom. I would much rather see a new series, perhaps about a semi-retired detective, featuring Bolam alone.

In reality, the whole UCOS team would be likely to be seconded to the "Jimmy Savile" enquiry bearing in mind their backgrounds and expertise. (A made up celeb could be created for drama purposes)
A fitting end to this era would be Gerry and Steve being excluded from the enquiry as they had met him or been involved in some police charity do he had attended (pictures could be photoshopped). Gerry and Steve then get sent to Scotland to fill gaps of officers from Scottish UCOS seconded to Savile investigation.
Obviously this would not have been written, as no writer would ever come up with something as twisted or fantasical as the truth !!!
For me New Tricks was great because of the superb cast, with them all but one gone, it will be a different show entirely and imo should be treated as such.
To me it wasnt crap but it wasnt the best i have seen
When you've had nearly 9 years and 75 episodes (the Glasgow one was 76) of a team of 4, it was always going to be strange to have just the two of them, whether you hated or liked the episode.
I didn't dislike it but I need to watch it again to really get used to just seeing Steve and Gerry in it.
Which I'll do when the DVD set comes next week.
No one could be better than Amanda and Alun, and the series was written with the four of them in mind - the creator wanted those 4 actors for the roles - but if they replace them with actors I like I'll watch.
If I don't like them I won't. Cos I have to like all 4 of them.
Simple, to me.
He'd work better as a replacement for Amanda as they're both in their 50's but not so much for alun, they need to find someone older to replace him.And i can see Nicholas taking over UCOS.
Was it ever explained why Brian (a north-easterner) supports Wimbledon?
I would have had Brian as a yorkshireman (i may be wrong)
But Wimbledon being the underdogs in life and him working in London for years may be a clue. His character would not be a glory hunter and support one of the bigger teams, also it could open up possibilitys of rivallry with gerry who is West Ham or Fulham i think

Why don't we just wait to see who they get to make up the numbers and how good the storylines are.
For all me know it could become better
I am sure there will be "it's not as good as it used to be" messages written before the next series even starts.
Dennis Waterman hasn't been in Star Wars
This happened when john nettles left midsomer murders.Im one of a very few who does like the new barnaby

Start filming the next series of New Tricks.
Denis, in an interview a few weeks ago, said they start filming the new series in November.
