Most watched New Who episode according to overnight figures is 'Voyage of the Damned': 12.2m (50%).Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I couldn't see it: On the radio this morning Chris Evans said the papers were predicting the best Dr Who ratings ever for the new episode on Saturday - can anyone tell me what they'd have to get to be the best ever, presuming they mean the new Who? Thanks very much.
Saturday's episode will definitely not beat that. I'd expect it to get between 8-9 million.

You may well be right but I've seen a lot of praise for MSO that might sway ITV - I'm very cautious about any potential recommission, I'm certainly not gloating just because a show has been sold 'worldwide' as if that is somehow a testament to its quality when we all know it isn't.
And I can't imagine FF will be missed by many when it's gone.
Yeah why have they split it like that?
The international sales of FlashForward certainly make it more likely to get a recommission in that sense, so it's a very valid point. Probably the only thing that could save it.
Just basing it on what I've been reading.
I'm sure there are plenty that are still enjoying it.
And I don't for a second think MSO is guaranteed a second run.
And yes this is mostly my opinion.
Anyway, there may not be a great deal in it between MSO and FF being recommissioned, but I do still think MSO is the most likely recommission. Flash Forward's 1.8 rating last week was appalling - it was even beaten by Community and Parks & Recreation on NBC!
I don't think international sales are all that significant. Particularly with its falling ratings in the UK I can't imagine Five would be as happy to pay as much again as they did when they first bid for the show.
- Part 1 (January 2007 to April 2008)
- Part 2 (April 2008 to October 2008)
- Part 3 (October 2008 to August 2009)
- Part 4 (August 2009 to October 2009)
- Part 5 (October 2009 to December 2009)
- Part 6 (December 2009 to February 2010)
- Part 7 (February 2010 to March 2010)
I agree - even though it's clear that ITV need to begin to indulge in non-crime drama.
I would recommission it for a Valentines Day special for Monday 14 February 2011, then if that pulls over 5 million viewers [which it should if repeats rate well], I would commission it for an 8 part series to air during the 2012 X Factor season.
Guilty as charged.
Like I said I don't know whether it'll be renewed or not and if it is recommissioned it'll be done cautiously.
But they renewed The Fixer and they renewed Moving Wallpaper and I think this has far more potential than both of those put together (both of those flopped again of course so I'm hardly helping my cause by using those as examples!)
But I really enjoyed it and so I am primarily basing my hopes on the quality of the series which was very good indeed.
Due to the election debates, Emmerdale is on for 1 hour on the Thursday from 19:00 to 20:00 instead of two half hours, clashing with EastEnders.
Marco's Kitchen Burnout starts on 16th April as predicted, with the Nile starting on 12th April. Interesting that its 4 parts... anyone have an idea of what is after?
12th April - Joanna Lumley's Nile
19th April - Joanna Lumley's Nile
26th April - Joanna Lumley's Nile
3rd May - Joanna Lumley's Nile (would have thought ITV may want something different on Bank Holiday, maybe the last episode could be moved?)
10th May - ???
17th May - ???
24th May - ???
31st May - Britain's Got Talent Live
Anyone want to hazard a guess at the 3 '???'.
Out of all the slots Nile could have gone the last slot I would have thought it would go is Monday 9pm. That said it should do very well there with 5m+ i would have thought with BBC1 factual stuff doing well in that slot.
What is bizarre though is ITV completely tearing apart what was a very successful schedule at the beginning of 2010 with crime/thrillers on Monday and crime on Friday.
I guess perhaps Nile was originally scheduled for Sunday, but with ITV ending primetime at 10pm and airing 2 hour dramas, and with Corrie appearing to be in the Sunday slot for a couple of weeks, 6.30pm on a Sunday would be too early for it (and clash with Countryfile).
Do ITV have any three part thrillers for those 3 weeks?
I'm guessing it'll be Greatest Cities of The World with Griff Rhys Jones as that's 3 episodes. I think that'll do a lot better than it did last time as it won't be against another travel show, or Silent Witness. Survival is a possibility but Radio Times has that down for Sunday 11th April at 6.30pm, although ITV Press Centre hasn't mentioned it.
I'll be interested to see how Kitchen Burnout does. The format sounds decent enough, if a bit thin, but the quality of celebrities is poor. 3.5-4m against Ashes To Ashes is probably where it'll end up.
Actually, that's quite a good figure for it overnight. It's previous official ratings are:
369k
388k
422k
<316k
371k
338k
277k
336k
432k
308k
464k
Series average:364k

Yeah but what I meant is why did they stick a post from an hour before the thread was split at the top of this thread and leave other subsequent posts in the last thread? Very odd.
Regarding MSO, indeed the ~4m average is quite low for the slot especially when taking the easy competition from BBC1 into account. But even at this low level, it was their most watched new non-crime drama series since at least 2007: Honest, Rock Rivals, Echo Beach, The Palace, Lost in Austen, Harley Street, Britannia High, Boy Meets Girl, Mr Eleven etc all posted generally much lower averages. It's a genre which ITV has had great difficulty in cracking in the last few years so bearing that in mind MSO did about okay compared to ITV's usual standards and is worth another shot IMO. This isn't just because I liked the show, but when you have a new drama which is the most popular one in that particular genre for at least 2 years (and is one of the Top 10 dramas on British TV among the lucrative 16-34 demo), then there's a definite case for a possible recommission.
I think ITV will want some sort of weekday drama airing in the Summer, which is probably why they haven't used Identity now. Perhaps The Prisoner was supposed to air there but after seeing it ITV didn't want it on Mondays? They've got Father and Son to slot in as well, but I'd have thought they'd want that on Mondays. Maybe they'll do what I suggested yesterday and put it on Thursdays? As for that Monday slot, 2 weeks and then a football match is awkward but I still think Greatest Cities will go there as they're individual episodes so the third one can be moved to a different night without any fuss (Wednesday?).
Doctor Who series 4 opener Partners in Crime had 8.4 million overnight, I'd expect The Eleventh Hour to be around that, maybe slightly lower, although you get the impression from the scheduling that the beeb don't care that much about DW's overnight figure, given a lower overnight usually means more people watching on BBC3/iplayer, and I guess they're keen for people to use those services.
Ah, I forgot about that. How many episodes is The Prisoner? Maybe they could strip it across a week or air it:
- Monday 10th
- Tuesday 11th
- Wednesday 12th
- Monday 17th
- Tuesday 18th
- Wednesday 19th
I don't think there would be any footy commitments on those dates and no (currently scheduled) dramas on those dates either.

Great stuff! Not crazy about the slogan though.
I think The Prisoner's definitely airing in April as it's been reported so and ITV has started some 'Coming Soon' promos for it. Score suggested yesterday that it might air on Saturday's in the post-BGT slot from 17th April. That would also tie in with the DVD release date of 3rd May, if they air the 6 episodes in 2 hour blocks.
