I wonder if anybody could give me a bit advice on what tablet to buy. It would be mainly to check e mails and be able to watch bbc i player and itv player. Reading up about them not all of them are compatible for watching catch up tv. Something in the range of £100-£250. Thanks,

It will take a couple of months to get your £50 back so you need to allow for this up front.
No problems with iPlayer or surfing, e-mail or Skype with this one.
Thought I better come back and tell you after giving my info above I checked with the Play Store that ITV Player does run on the Sammy Tab 2 and apparently it does NOT.
I think ITV have an Android phobia.:D I did read somewhere that ITV are working on it but you can trust them as far as you can throw your tablet.:D
No problems with the BBC iPlayer though.
I have several Android devices here and only my Huawei G300 phone and my Advent Vega tablet works where as my Tab 2 or my ZTE Blade phone do not accept the Play Store download.
I have side loaded the itv player app onto my galaxy tab 2 and it works. I've got iplayer, itv player, 4 on Demand and Catch up TV working on mine.
I also have a samsung galaxy note (Phone) and the ITV player app can be downloaded directly from the play store on that and it works.
May I ask where you got the apk file for ITV Player, spent an hour looking today and could not find one.

Just spotted the Black Friday offer, so a little desperate...
Install this App to watch all channels live

If you initially set the tablet up for them (wifi connection, email, apps, etc) tablets are pretty much straightforward from then on. Any of the current batch of tablets would be suitable for what your parents want to do, the Kindle fire is good value at the moment as is the Playbook.
You're better off with bigger storage if you're going to install lots of apps, games and movies, but it doesn't sound like your parents would need that.
It's a great app, but doesn't perform the main function of iplayer, which would be ondemand programmes from the las week etc.
But better than nothing
I'm surprised your G300 works with the ITVplayer because mine is just awful. It take ages to load, then once you start something, it stops, starts, reloads, stops, starts, reloads till finally you get so few up you bugger off and read the Bible - anything except watch ITV on the bloody G300 (which is otherwise a fine phone.)
You may well be right, I only loaded it to see if it works and it did for the minute I watched it but just tried a minute ago and it said there was a connection problems and that's over a 7mb/s WiFi connection.
The screen on the G300 is too small for TV viewing for my liking so I will delete the app anyway.
Sorry I'm not sure where I got it from. I searched the net for ages and thought I hadn't found it, but then I found that I had somehow downloaded the apk without reaslising it.
Thanks anyway, I did a search again this morning and found the apk straight away and can’t for the life of me know why I could not find one yesterday, maybe something to do with how you ask Google.
Had a bit of a problem putting my post code into the player but it’s all working fine now so to the OP, yes ITV Player and BBC iPlayer both work on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1.:)
Thank you very much, you've sorted their Christmas present.
