    That was Russ Abbott.

Bob Holness (as in, "Can I have a P please Bob") was the first ever person to play James Bond, but in fairness it was an answer better suited for the radio forum and I was being a bit smug.
According to this site he was the second behind Barry Nelson

Connery will always be Bond for me, he set the benchmark by which all other Bonds are measured. Nobody comes close.

Dalton and Craig are my joint second favourites. Both excellent Bonds, and in Dalton's case a massive shame that he didn't get a chance to do more.

I think Lazenby had the potential to be great. I've always considered OHMSS to be one of the greatest Bonds ever made, and Lazenby's performance is hugely impressive considering his lack of experience. It's a real shame he only did the one film.

Although I rather like Moore's interpretation of Bond, his films in general were a real low point for the series (except Live and Let Die, The Spy Who Loved Me and For Your Eyes Only). Bond became far too camp and light-hearted, it needed to be brought back to earth.

Brosnan is the only Bond I don't particularly like; he lacks that 'edge' that other actors brought to the role. For example, I could never believe that Brosnan's Bond could be a cold-blooded killer, he looked far too much like a banker or an estate agent. Goldeneye aside, his films also left a lot to be desired.

So my ranking from favourite to least favourite would be:
Connery, Dalton, Craig, Lazenby, Moore, Brosnan.

Dalton just pips Craig to the top spot for me.

Such a wasted opportunity, given more films he would have truly owned the role.

I liked Daniel Craigs Bond relationship with M - now the dynamics changed, I wonder if he'll stay top two...

I think it will be interesting to see where they go with M now, seeing as he's not that different in age to Bond now.

Connery and Dalton are my top two; I just didn't believe that endless beautiful women would fall into bed with Roger Moore's Bond despite him being old enough to be their dad, simply because of some cheesy one-liners. Connery's Bond is an unashamedly masculine Bond; you could see how the Bond girls would be seduced by his machoness and how male viewers would want to be him. The humour (at least in some of his films) comes easily rather than cheesily; yeah, he's pretty iconic.

Dalton's Bond is convincing as a playboy with a dark edge. He's got such a great commanding voice and is gorgeous to boot. You could genuinely believe how the female characters reacted to him whereas it was very forced with Moore. His charisma is striking and I don't feel that it was too serious or humourless- rather this Bond is too cool to make jokes.

I really liked Craig in Casino Royale; it made me feel that this was a Bond for our times, with Bond genuinely being in danger many times and very cynical. His Bond in Skyfall though was all wrong; there was too much of a clumsy parallel between the question of whether James Bond as a man was getting too old for the role and whether the franchise still had life in it. I don't feel he's a particularly charismatic Bond though (even Roger Moore had some, albeit a cheesy one) so hopefully he can bring something for Spectre.
