Someone recommended this on Youtube and I'm not familliar with the singer (James o Toole) but I think it beats Jeff Buckleys version. I have listened to lots of versions of this song and this is the best I've found:D. And yes, I have had the misfortune of listening to Alexs' version. lol:(

Nice version, but IMO no one has ever and probably no one ever will come even close to k d lang's version -

If that's not the definitive version of Hallelujah then there just isn't one.

Is it me or is Cohen, as the original artist, looking like the lovechild of David Schwimmer and him from the Pogues

I agree. Face like the back end of a bus, voice of an angel.

She's always looked 'different' but used to be rather good-looking, though she's tended to emphasise the androgynous look. She's put on a lot of weight over the past few years too.

Doesn't matter in the slightest. That voice ... I've never heard anyone who could touch her. Spellbinding.

Well he's been dead over ten years so I can't imagine he really cares what you think :D

I've grown up with this song, having loved it since purchasing the I'm Your Fan covers album with John Cale's version in '91, which led me to Buckley's Grace and the incredible back-catalogue of LC. When a song is as great as that you tend to go through phases of liking many different versions. This week I'm loving Bob Dylan's and Kate Voegele's :)

That's middle age for you. :D

I've loved her from the first moment i heard her - and yes I thought she was good looking when she was younger. If I had been gay I would have fancied her.

    I love k d lang's version. I love Alex's version. Buckley's does nothing for me.

I loved Diana's version at bootcamp, and I'm not even a fan of her (anymore)

I would have loved it if she won just to hear that in full

Buckley's is overrated. I prefer Rufus Wainright's if I'm to pick a recorded version that isn't Alex's. But I think Alex's is the best by a lot.

It seems a lot of people on this forum think that you can't like Alex's version if you like Buckley's version.

Anyway, personally I think Buckey's version is overated. Yes, it is excellent - but I do prefer Alex's cover. IT CAN'T BE THAT BAD WITH ALL THE SALES IT HAS HAD ALREADY!!

I must admit however, that KD Lang's version is absolutley superb. The raw emotion in her voice is just stunning. If anything, she should be competing in the charts over Buckley & Cohen.

People buy the X Factor single becuase they have invested 3 months of emotion into the series at the moment of the final. They could sing any track and it will sell in huge numbers. All of the X Factor winner's songs/arrangements have so far been poor.

Ask, Leona or Leon fans what they really think of the respective winner's single now.

Just listened to that again and I think Diana was a lot less irritating then - I enjoyed the clip - thanks.

I completely disagree with your point.

If the song was that bad, do you really think it would have beaten the record for most downloads in EUROPE???

Yes, it would have still sold well - but if a song is crap, a wide majority of people arn't gonna waste their money.

And concerning Leona and Leon, I still think their winner's singles are good; and know others who feel the same.
