Certainly a very different presentation style. Listening at 12.45pm to presenter singing over Transvision Vamp !

Presenters seem to be the ones who failed the audition for hospital radio.

Tuned in today to hear what the brekky show was like. Just automated music.. nothing else. Some songs are great, others... errrrm, guess thats why it's called "trash can radio" :)

the schedule gets uploaded after this weekend
A work in progress, plus requests to get sponsorship and ads for programmes, so still sorting out funding?

It would be good if they could crank up the volume a bit on DAB. They're noticeably quieter than Jazz FM (and most other stations).

    I wish them every success.

    Dab is expensive.

Nice to see someone trying something different.

Expect they're listening and waiting. The music that should be on the playout system or in their library is sadly being diluted by some utter dross.I love the music that the 60s garage/psych produced and have a reasonable selection of it,currently it's more pleasurable to listen to that rather than what's being streamed.Wonder how long it'll last.
Another thought,as a licensed station what are their obligations as regards sticking to format or playing tracks that feature the dreaded "F" word?

Soundprocessing wise this station is a big mess. Lots of level issues. Don't know if they use processing but read that f-ing manual!

Part of the problem with much of the material they seem to be using is that it's poor quality to start with. Some sounds like poor quality MP3 other is from compilations where the company behind the release took little time or effort in remastering.Crackly old 45's and acetates recorded in mono should sound much better when ripped as a mono audiofile, this eliminates much of the surface noise of the original material. Audio levels are indeed all over the shop when it comes to presenters.

The website never said it would only play 60sgarage/more modern bands in the same idiom though. I'm checking Facebook for the presenter led shows, hopefully soon there'll be a schedule up of those on the webpage. I don't think a very narrow garage only format would be commercially viable.

There's a large proportion of garage on this station if you haven't heard of it, all music from 1965-68. Register and you get access to lots of rare video clips.

Been on air a couple of weeks now, apart from comments regarding audio quality, what are your thoughts?

I have a soft spot for oldies, but for me, some tracks are too specialist for my liking.

I enjoyed the old radio horror stories they played for Halloween. Yesterday they played a lot of less familiar Beatles songs, including several early ones showcasing George Harrison's guitar, which made a change from the more commonly-played stuff. The back-to-back music does jump wildly from doowop to garage to mainstream.

It looks like Trash Can Radio have changed their name and are now called Radio Nirvana. According to their website http://www.trashcanradio.com/about/, it's to make the station more appealing to potential advertisers who found the station name off-putting. They now seem to be playing general 60s/70s oldies, but will apparently revert to 'trash can' music between 7pm and 7am.

Let's hope they don't dilute the Trash Can ethos too much. Little Steven's Underground Garage hit the spot this morning but preceded by a show by Nick someone which was competent enough but pretty much Dave Doubledecks playing some random disco and rock tunes. Maybe it was supposed to be ironic?

They just played Won't Somebody Dance With Me? by Lynsey de Paul. That's taking the Trash Can ethos to homeopathic levels of dilution.

Sadly until the cost of DAB carriage becomes sensible and by sensible I would suggest equal to that of operating an FM transmitter with the same coverage including mast space on a site share and electric etc it will be near impossible for any type of specialist station to last unless its backed by somebody with a love for radio and very deep pockets.

The current system of private companies holding the licences to operate the muxes prices anybody but the large groups out of the market.

Trash can radio is now on Upload radio DAB at odd times (tonight 2-3AM) S London, Surrey, Gloucester, N Wales, Chester and Liverpool .
Trash can radio's Facebook has an update "There will be more shows soon with different genres of music" and a playlist, but their website and stream still needs updating!!
