In case you haven't seen it for years, BBC 2 are starting a rerun of the series just good friends starting today on BBC 2 at 16:45 i am hoping they show the Christmas special uncut as the DVD version is a shambles,, a rerun of dear John is also long overdue

Never got the grown men going weak at the knees at Jan Francis thing, she's OK, a bit boyish in fact.

However, Nicholas is disgustingly good looking, I hate his guts.

Is this the first time it has been shown in HD (or at least upscaled HD)?

I'm not sure if BBC2 HD was on when it was last shown.

I have the DVD box set of Dear John. But as you say the 'Just Good Friends' dvd set has the Christmas special with subtitles because they couldn't get the copyright for a song. rolleyes

Both comedies are lways good to see again.

It is still funny after all this time. I was watching out for all the old
anachronisms, sexual harassment in the workplace, smoking in pubs and waiters lighting your cigarette, Ford Escorts, and cars with different coloured wings, men with perms. :D

Mods need to merge the two threads.

I hope they show the xmas special in uncut form. I know there is a difference between dvd song rights and tv broadcast song rights so hopefully we wont get those silly subtitles.

Love watching these 80's comedies. First Lysette Anthony in 3 Up 2 Down, and now Jan Francis. BBC2 you are making me very happy.

I missed episode one so watched it on youtube. Bet BBC2 cut the "prick" joke.

    They actually left it in!

Remember Just Good Friends, and the other comedies, will be off air for a while now. 17 days of snooker in this time slot begins tomorrow..

So stupid to start it this week knowing that it was going to be off for 17 days. Why not just wait till after. Im into it now so will just watch it online.

Wasn't there an episode where we see the very beginning, just before the wedding ?
Jan was shown with long hair?

Agree they did have a good chemistry and remember, when I watched in 1983 as a 19 year old, thinking Jan would have been a great Mrs Robinson for me!

Last night I introduced my 11 year old daughter to this show, with 4 back to back episodes and she found Penny's parents the funniest, particularly Daphne when she was debating to eat chocolates while watching a news clip about hungry kids, only eating them after she switched the TV off.

Certainly had many more chuckles for me than many contemporary comedy sitcoms nowadays.

Rewatching it after all these years shows me how poor Paul Nicholas' acting was. His acting style realy is just "wooden followed by inane grin ". Jan on the other hand is brilliant.

If anyone has seen the Neil Diamond Jazz Singer movie on the True channels, he's in a scene in that!

I remember about 20 years ago, me and my parents went to see Paul Nicholas in Barnum. It was so bad, we left at the interval!:D

They have shown 'Don't Wait Up' before so hopefully that will be a possibility.

I think Butterflies has been on Drama recently (along with Just Good Friends).

Dear John hasn't been shown for a while but i have the DVD boxset.

I think Don't Wait Up has been on GOLD quite recently but I missed most of it, I'd like to see it again. Butterflies has been on a few times on GOLD and Drama and Dear John was on GOLD a year or two ago I think, but it hasn't been repeated many times over the years. Hopefully it'll be on BBC2 to give viewers who haven't got GOLD the chance to see it again or to get a whole new audience. I bought the boxset because I was fed up waiting for it to be repeated!
