Paula is a drugged up idiot, but to be fair she technically has as much or more musical experience as Randy and Kara.
Kara knows songwriting. But this isn't a songwriting contest. And Randy? Knows how to play bass and namedrop.
From an A&R standpoint, Simon and Randy are both coming from roughly the same place though--both having been record company executives at one point.
Really none of this has to do with "who's stood up on a stage and sung before". If that was the standard NONE of them would be up to Paula's level. She's got that... and yet is also an idiot. And its not about songwriting, because Kara has that... and is an idiot. Or being a record exec, because Randy has that... and is an idiot. It's about who seems to be best able to get past the nonsense. And that's usually Simon, although to be fair, at times he spouts an awful lot of that too.

Plus, you know, the show also includes about 12 or so people who AREN'T idiot judges (or the lone non-idiot judge). Could be possible I'm watching for THEM too. And following your suggestion might interfere with that.
