Last year saw a big climb for FYD, this year sees the climb reverse as they remain the lowest ranked group of Series 7 for a third consecutive year. The group was never really given that much screen time in the run up to the lives and were given the graveyard slot to begin with. Had there been no wildcards and no double that week, it is likely they would’ve been safe and it would’ve been a Nicolo vs Katie bottom 2 (no doubt Katie would’ve still survived).
Last year saw little movement for Badlashes, this year however they take a massive dive in the rankings; but still remain ahead of Girlband. They were the DS faves of the groups during the judges houses stages, however the general public didn’t agree and after a ropey 1st show performance were eliminated via deadlock against Girlband.
91 [81] = The Unconventionals (Series 3) = 2212pts
Ranking History (22-30-52-60-63-81-91)
Ranking Performance (+0.37%)
After a big drop last year, the Unconventionals manage a small climb this year, however still a far cry away from their first 2 years on the rankings. They were Series 3’s 1st Eliminated Act and were the DS favourites until that performed Dancing in the Street. I really liked them and thought they were given a bit of a bum deal by Louis – they were axed in the 1st live show against Dionne (another DS favourite back in the day). They are however the 2nd highest ranked group of Series 3 which I guess shows how bad the groups were in series 3 (barring the top ranked group off course... which we probably wont be seeing for quite some time)
90 [77] = The Conway Sisters (Series 2) = 2262pts
Ranking History (27-36-41-54-64-77-90)
Ranking Performance (-2.71%)
Another group taking a drop is the Series 2 Bottom 2 veterans - The Conway Sisters. Infamous due to their survival over Maria and off course they became the only act to be axed by their mentor over another act who is not looked after by their own mentor (Simon opted to save Chico instead). IMO the Conways weren’t that bad, however outstayed their welcome by quite some way.
Last Year Wagner took one of the biggest fall in the rankings, this year sees him take a massive climb; he is no longer the lowest ranked Series 7 acts and no longer the lowest ranked Over 28. A string of high late votes saw him improve massively on where he looked to be ending up. Wagner managed to stay in the competition until the final 7; outlasting Aiden, Paije, Treyc, John, Belle Amie and Diva Fever, he had a bit of a cult following and I guess the loaf is still strong.
88 [86] = Daniel de Bourg (Series 4) = 2305pts
Ranking History (X-34-49-64-78-86-88)
Ranking Performance (+7.96%)
Last year Daniel took a big climb up the rankings, this year he once more takes a big gain; but still remains as the lowest ranked Over from Series 4. Daniel I think is best remembered for his rendition of Build Me Up Buttercup which really just seemed a big exercise in getting him eliminated from the competition. He became the 2nd Act of Series 4 to be eliminated, up against Sharon’s Act Alisha Bennett.
87 [92] = Steve Brookstein (Series 1) = 2344pts
Ranking History (20-23-33-40-57-92-87)
Ranking Performance (+14.77%)
Last year Steve took a fall of 35 places and was the biggest faller on the rankings; this year however he takes a huge climb, however he remains as the lowest ranked winner (once more by a huge margin). Steve these days comes across as an incredibly bad losers and often makes it his duty to run down the show at every opportunity. He won over G4 with 60+% of the vote, however was dropped after 1 single and 1 album.
The camp duo take a big drop in the rankings. I really liked Diva Fever and was slightly peeved they were eliminated so early on (especially over Belle Amie who hadn't given a great performance at that point!) They lasted until week 2 before being eliminated along with Storm. Had their vote gone to deadlock they would’ve stayed... also if there wasn't a double they would've been safe – but the judges probably knew that anyway… fix anyone
85 [75] = Nicholas Dorsett (Series 2) = 2402pts
Ranking History (21-35-39-50-66-75-85)
Ranking Performance (-0.30%)
Nicholas basically stands still in the rankings after a bit of a rise last year; he remains as the 3rd highest ranked 16-24 of Series 2 behind Chenai and Shayne. Personally I liked Nicholas – although a lot of his performances were a bit flat towards the end. I think Louis really began to focus more on Shayne and didn’t really know what to do with Nicholas. Nicholas lasted until Week 6 before becoming a victim of the Conway Sisters.
84 [71] = Andy Williams (Series 4) = 2476pts
Ranking History (X-31-44-51-62-71-84)
Ranking Performance (-3.38%)
After a small climb last year, Andy takes a bit of a dip in the rankings and remains as the lowest ranked 16-24 of Series 4. Andy was the first act of Dannii's to be eliminated when she joined the show however went on to do the double by having Leon and Rhydian as the winner and runner-up. Andy had a lot of potential, however was never really shown in a big way in the live shows – he was favourite to win after Judge’s Houses, however was eliminated after being bottom 2 against Beverley.
Nicholas lasted until Week 6 before becoming a victim of the Conway Sisters.
First of my top 20 gone with Nicholas, I thought he was really good with tonnes of potential, just Louis didnt have a CLUE what to do with him, for me one of the most wasted acts (with tonnes of potential) of all the series, and he was very handsome too!
83 [62] = Sami Brookes (Series 8) = 2527pts
Ranking History (X-X-X-X-X-62-83)
Ranking Performance (-11.42%)
Taking a massive fall in the rankings is Series 8's Sami. Originally Sami never made the lives after being eliminated in favor of Goldie, however she was brought back and kept abpve Jonjo in week 1 when Goldie jumped ship. She made it to Week 3 after some dodgy song choices by Louis before being eliminated over Kitty. She had a very strong voice, however I don’t think she would’ve made a successful artist had she got to the later rounds. She came across as a nice person though and took being eliminated very well.
82 [60] = Belle Amie (Series 7) = 2600pts
Ranking History (X-X-X-X-48-60-82)
Ranking Performance (-11.53%)
Next up are the manufactured girl group named after gay porn; Belle Amie who take a big drop in the rankings. The girls were popular on DS who are always a sucker for a girl group – however they couldn’t seem to do right with the public. After facing The Waissel in the bottom 2 they were (like so many others that year) sent packing from the competition. Last year they released a single called Girls Up which didn’t chart.
After a big fall last year, Katie takes another small drop this year, she survived the bottom 2 more so than any other act in XF UK history, kept in my Cowell to keep the media attention up at the expense of better artists. She received quite a few high rankings from voters, however not enough to sustain her from taking a drop. Once more she is the lowest ranked 16-27 Female Act of Series 7 and Overall.
Lowest Ranked 16-27 Female Act (Overall)
Lowest Ranked 16-27 Female Act of Series 7
After a climb last year, Hope take a big drop in the rankings. Personally I thought Hope were awful, tuneless and never gelled as a group. They managed to get to the top 5 before finally exited the competition, despite being bottom 2 on 3 separate occasions and being saved. Hope managed to receive quite a few high rankings and also quite a number of bottom 10 placings.
Kimberley took a huge climb last year, however this year takes a small drop. Kimberlery was the 1st act to be eliminated in Series 4 after being given the graveyard slot and a karoke classic. I liked Kimberley and thought she got a bit of a raw deal on the show, especially with the song choice. She wasn’t helped by Sharon storming off and threatening to quit because of the bottom 2 result either.
Last year saw a climb for Chenai and repeats that climb this year and remains 2nd behind Shayne in the rankings of the Series 2 16-24 acts. I guess Chenai is now possibly remembered as being picked over Alexandra in Series 2 as Louis only wanted 1 female act and opted for Chenai. Chenai was eliminated after falling into the bottom 2 against Nicholas in Week 4 of the competition.
Next up is the 2nd new entry this year and the first of the groups to appear. MK1 were a bit of a first for the X Factor with the emphasis on this group being very much on rap music. With Louis Walsh as their mentor it was bound to fail and they lasted until week 3 of Series 9 whereupon they fell into the bottom 2 against Kye and were eliminated via a deadlock decision.
OK so thats it for now... prob start with the next bit at around 9...

Taking a slight climb up the rankings is the first real marmite contestant; Chico. He survived until the final 5 and appeared in the bottom 2 on three occasions, he was the first act to perform their own song and is also the only act to be kept in as a result of another mentor sending their own act home. Although seen as a bit of a joke act, I think he did have something about him and a good sense of fun – an act who shows that having ‘The X Factor’ is more than just having a great voice. He remains as the lowest Ranked Over of Series 2. Since leaving the show Chico has released a few singles and came 3rd on Dancing on ice
Last year Ashley took a bit hit in the rankings and this year he takes another tumble. Ashley is a contestant people seem to love or hate, personally I really rated him and IMO was the first casualty of the ridiculous theme weeks that are put upon acts. The first ever eliminated Act form XF UK takes a bit climb in the rankings. Roberta was one of the favourite going into the lives, however found herself in the bottom 2 against Voices With Soul and Simon chose to eliminate Roberta. I don’t remember her being bad at all and I think it was just bad luck really and people possibly assuming she was safe. She has held up pretty well here considering.
