I used to be a member of mumsnet. They tend to be bullies. Horrible lot. Not all of course, but its certainly a site I would be happy to never visit again, after watching one lass, who had DARED to decide to bottle feed rather than breast feed her baby, get a distinct lack of the actual advice she was after, and a lot of "you MUST breastfeed, or die" type posts.
Scary. Go there at your peril
I'd tell them to **** off and mind their own business. What gives anyone else the right to tell someone else how they should feed their baby? I was bottle fed and managed to survive my childhood in tact, I was rarely ill in fact.
I fancied a giggle today. Been having a look on the "Am I Being Unreasonable" thread, good Lord Almighty, some of the posts. Hilarious but sad that some people feel the need to ask such inane questions, isn't it really just one big huggy fest - people fishing for compliments and justification of their actions? I shan't venture into any other parts of the site as I don't like children and in fact have only read threads that don't seem to be about them.
It's pretty much the same as any other forum. The dd, ds stuff is annoying, and there seems to be a bully element on the parenting threads, but their trolls have nothing on ours.

There was, apparently a troll called 'Chistine' on there, who should have been called 'CrazyChristine12':D

AIBU is usually good fun. It's expected to be a little more strident than other sections. You wouldn't get that behaviour in, say, Life-limiting illnesses.
As another poster said, it's a huge site with many sections. It's worth a good long lurk before you dive in, to get a feel for the place.
The feminist/women's rights section is excellent. It has many extremely intelligent, well read posters, men and women, who want to discuss real, global issues in a serious way. It is the only part of Mumsnet I feel comfortable in, to be honest. A lot of the rest of Mumsnet actually think this section is weird and pointless...yet the most popular section is AIBU??? Go figure!!!!
Is it me or is mumsnet a particularly difficult site to navigate for a first timer? There's just too much writing everywhere, very busy layout. It's horrid.
It also worries me that the Government thinks it is legitimate to commission the Mother's Union to produce a report into general social matters inclusing broadcasting (Bailey Report). By all means commission them, but acknowledge that they have a parenting stance, and an active parenting stance at that - parents who are happy with the status quo tend not to get involved in pressure groups.
I think I said at the time that commissioning the Mother's Union to investigate parenting was much like commissioning the Temperance Movement or Alcohol Concern to look into the sale of alcohol; you don't need to be a prophet to predict the outcome of what they're going to report back.

A thread along a similar vein to mumsnet. My son didn't event start talking properly until 2 yrs 4 months:(

As for the acronyms, I had to use http://www.acronymfinder.com/ to find some of them out.

Go figure.
I find the whole idea of moon cups gross and unhygienic.

Mumsnet has their own acronym section.

Think of how nasty the Showbiz section of the DS forums can get, and times it by 10, and you get the gist of what Mumsnet is like.
Indeed...oh the irony!!
I once visited there and it made me realise how lucky I was not being a parent nor did I want to be afterwards...
A viscous nasty set of entitlement junkies.
What is a NCT ??????
The last DS thread (bar this one) I posted on had people admitting to torturing cats when they were younger??
Mumsnet actually seems tame in comparison to some of the stuff I read on here!! Even the AIBU section seems pretty civilised compared to DS.
