Imagine for sure. There was a thread elsewhere about John Lennon and from other stuff I have read about him, he was a pretty cynical and selfish man for much of his life and the lyrics just seem too good to be true.

Coming from Manchester, ANYTHING by the Stone Roses. Men my age go misty eyed for them, I do not get it at all. I kept hearing about 'Spike Island', if everyone who claims to have been there was there, Spike island must be the size of Cuba :D

    Two Biggies there...

I do like Imagine, but do understand why folk would go right against it, especially when Lennon was hardly a saint and can be seen as hypocritical...
But it is "Imagine", a quite brilliant view of how the world Could be. Definitely a Marmite track.

I am a Big Stone Roses fan, absolutely love em, but when I hear their most famous track (in the public's eyes) Fools Gold, being played in a public place, and seeing folk doing " the Fools Gold dance"... It does make me cringe. I admit I almost hated that song for twenty years, but their 2012 live version was awesome.

I wasn't at Spike Island, but I was as Ally Pally in 89.

Another similar Manchester tune that has always hacked me off because of the audience, is James "Sit Down". I like James, but don't like that very twee number, and despise those that Sit Down.

    ;)

Bland polyester songs like 'Waiting for a Girl Like you', 90% of Elton John's output, the song 'Smooth Operator'..
Angels by Gobbie Williams, Babycakes and Pass Out by 'Tiny Temper' are basically the soundtrack of the underclass.

So basically most of Smooth and Magic's playlists? And which songs make up the other 10% of Elton John's output that you like? Speaking of Foreigner, add I Wanna Know What Love Is to that list. So overplayed

Are either of those songs really considered "classics"?

"I can't Liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiive, if Livin' is without Yoooooooooou" - enough said any version is excruciating to listen to!

    Hey Jude - sooooo boring!!!

Me too! Particularly hate it when it's a sing a long at a concert and it goes on, and on, and on and on .......
Don't Stop Me Now - Queen
This was used at my place of work as a "motivational" piece with stills of people at our works being shown to try and match the lyrics. E.g. Someone on a phone when Freddie sings 'give me a call'. Totally cringeworthy. I wasn't keen on the song to start with but this just finished me off. I turn it off when it comes on.

    Albatross - Fleetwood Mac

Ring of Fire - Johnny Cash

Born in the USA - Bruce Springsteen

    Imagine - John Lennon

These except for Ring of Fire. I now always burst into giggles when I hear it as a friend sings some of it when he's had a hot curry! ;-)

Can't go for that ( no can do ) by Hall & Oates, awful song,
Single Ladies by Beyonce, some parts of the song are not understandable,
Right As Rain by Adele, she sounds like she's short of breath when she sings that.
I'm on fire by Bruce Springsteen, a pointless song.

I love MJ but even I agree with this, well, I don't think it's awful, but so overrated IMO

Sometimes it's the singer rather than the song. The original of "I will always love you " is rather good but the song has been all but ruined by Whitney Foghorn bellowing it out.

Imagine, however, is abysmal full stop.

I'd say that 'Pass Out' is considered a classic amongst those who seek to define the cancer that is 'urban' music as having any credibility. 'Babycakes' is also loved by the sufficient millions of underclass we have to probably qualify as a classic by sheer weight of number.

'Underclass'? Most of the people who liked that poppy rubbish were middle-class and/or little kids! :D

I don't mind the Wet Wet Wet version but the original is so much better

Can understand why people hate Bohemian Rhapsody but I think its an absolute masterpiece

Never heard that Adele track, but surprised no one's mentioned the awful Someone Like You

Me too. I think its an absolutely extraordinary song. Maybe its over played on radio though and that's prompted the negativity.

    Imagine - childish pap

Grease - is it really 'the word', and does it have 'groove' and/or meaning?

The Greatest Love of All - hideous, shameless, self-worship. Possibly even worse than My Way.

I'd agree with both of those. And add a few of my own...

    Spandau Ballet - True
Sinead O'Connor - Nothing Compares To You
    U2 - One
    Ultravox - Vienna
    Robbie Williams - Angels
Ben E King - Stand By Me

Tedious dirges them all., IMHO of course!

I love One, and Stand By Me is ok but I don't like any of the others
Don't Stop Me Now - Queen
    Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen

I don't like either of these, nor It's a Kinda Magic nor Freddie Mercury's solo hit Barcelona.

I don't like I Will Survive but do like Imagine. The most over-rated song by John Lennon is Number 9 Dream.

The, in my view, dreary Imagine and pretentious Bohemian Rhapsody.
