60% of TV drama is SF? Thats gotta be fiction in itself!:D

Nope. In television, there is current affairs/news, sport, education, factual, drama and light entertainment.

Let's say there's a documentary about, say, 2001: A Space Odsyessy and there's a thriller-drama about the cloning of a woman, and a factual strand that explores a What if? with various dramatised scenarios. Also a sitcom of an alien living at Buckingham Palace, and a weekly drama of an isolated ship in search for a cure in the infected world, and a serial children's drama featuring a bunch of schoolboys who travel to another world.

All those above can be categorised as SF or SF&F and filed under Drama and/or Light Entertainment. That's how broad it is, which is why I was comfortable with making such a stab-in-the-dark claim. :D

Those are not unpopular, though. Roughly 60% of TV drama belongs to the SF genre. Among the most popular web sites are technology and SF blogs/sites. Mashable, io9 and Den of Geek, anyone?

As for old films? Still going strong.

There are plenty of people who will still call you a "nerd" if you express a like for stuff like Doctor Who or Star Trek.

There might be the whole hipster movement, and it's admittedly a lot cooler to be geeky than it used to be, but there are still many people who will sneer at that stuff and brand it as boring or sad.

    Gotta agree with this!

I don't necessarily agree with the stuff she says. But by God she is the master of winding people up, on this forum and elsewhere! It's truly wonderful to behold. And the great thing is, the people getting wound up are doing EXACTLY what she wants them to do and they're either too stupid or too enraged (or both) to realise it! :D

Or - I realize this might be a difficult thing to grasp - they are people who dislike her scattergun spite and arrogance; it is not actually a sign of stupidity to prefer kindness to unkindness.

    Popular things I dislike:

50 Shades of Grey and its dismal offshoots.
    Game of Thrones
    Beer
    'Killer heels'
    Snapchat
    Women's magazines
    Men's magazines
    Lobster
'Spinning' (other than relating to wool and spinning wheels)
    Pilates and yoga
    American Dad

    Unpopular things I like

His Dark Materials. I was GUTTED when they cancelled the 2nd and 3rd films.
Low-fat cheese, especially when toasted, when it assumes a peculiar rubbery texture and taste.
The Ghost of Tom Joad, Bruce Springsteen's best album.
The Word magazine, best (music) magazine EVER, killed by poor sales. :(
    Bjork's swan dress
Single malt whisky drunk weak with lots of water.

Whats unpopular about 60s music? I like some 60s music (and 70s and 80s music - I thought maybe 70s music isnt so popular but then I thought no, Johnnie Walkjers Sounds of the 70s radio show is pretty popular *shrug*). I also like comfy shoes - a good pair of M&S slippers :) I'm not sure being scared is unpopular either - horror movies were quite 'in', certainly a while back anyway.

    Popular I don't like

Reality shows/Talent shows anything with a sob story
US TV shows (with a few exceptions Arrow, Smallville, Modern Family, The Middle, Big Bang)
    Badly applied fake tan
Shorts or skirts that leave little to the imagination (just no on anyone, no one wants to see you bum cheek no matter how young or pert you are!)
    Uggs
    50 shades of grey etc
    Badly fitting bra's
People famous for no apparent talent other than who they have slept with, who their brother/sister married, who their parents are, a sex tape.

    Unpopular things I like

    Jeremy Kyle
80's cheese (what's wrong with Rick Astley every now and again!)
    Katie Hopkins

    Popular Things I Dislike / Don't Get

All the things people seem to want in a house these days - huge ultra-modern kitchen diners, huge windows, high ceilings, open plan. To live somewhere like that would be a living hell for me.

    Light evenings

    X-Factor, I'm A Celeb, BGT ( although I do love Strictly )

    Red top 'news'papers

    Boozy nights out

Friends ( the tv programme )

    Friends

    Mobile phones

    Cars

    Unpopular Things I Like

    Cold weather

Old houses ( anything newer than 17thC is a newbuild to me :D ) with low ceilings, beams and small mullion windows.

    Fruit cake

    Brass bands

The popular thing that I absolutely cannot stand at the moment is the Great British Bake Off. I find it unbearably smug and twee. I love baking, so people often assume I'm into it and then express great surprise and disbelief when I tell them I don't watch it and I feel like some kind of leper in the office.

An unpopular thing that I love is cold baked beans - especially extra chilled, straight out of the fridge!

I suppose you could pick lots of different things you like out of all the posts in the dislike section. My friends all late 20s to mid 30s wouldnt dream of listening to 60s music, that is what I have based my lists on.

I'm in my early 30s and listen to mostly old music. There are people and things I could add to the like but others dislike list but then there are others who like them all, just, like you say, not many in my age bracket.

Wonkey, your list is so similar to mine I just tweaked it! My additions are in brackets.

I like malt whisky too, but drink it neat, which I suppose isn't unpopular.

    (Children)

    Unpopular things I like

His Dark Materials. I was GUTTED when they cancelled the 2nd and 3rd films. (Loved the books, and unusually for me, thought the film wasn't bad)
Low-fat cheese, especially when toasted, when it assumes a peculiar rubbery texture and taste.
The Word magazine, best (music) magazine EVER, killed by poor sales. :(

Popular but dislike: Selfies. In fact I don't possess a single picture of myself which wasn't taken for formal ID purposes. Admittedly things would probably be very different if I wasn't so incredibly unphotogenic.

Unpopular but like: Brutalist Architecture. My theory is that growing up in a new town has resulted in a weird nostalgia for concrete 'monstrosities'.

    Popular That I Don't Get:

Those magazines with pink/magenta headers and exclamation marks in the titles, boring on about stupid orange women/royal chinless wonders and who their latest shag/baby/malady is.

Great British Bake Off/magazines/books/TV wanking on endlessly about making 'cupcakes' and crap. I don't care if Evil Edna sabotaged Beardo's cornflakes a l'orange or whatever. Food is boring. Eat it, crap it out, move on and think about something actually interesting.

And anyway I thought Mary Berry died in 1979. So what is she doing on TV?

Another vote for selfies. You're not interesting. Pictures of you are not interesting. Endless pictures of you are boring.

Travel. Just... why? Get a postcard or use Google Earth. There - now you have seen what it looks like.

Weddings. Why? What century are you in?

    Football. Snore.

Cats. Cats doing funny/cute things on the internet, specifically.

    Unpopular Things I Like

    Big Brother. (Sorry)

The Hobbit, and I mean the films as well as the book. Again, sorry. Peter Jackson can do no wrong in my book. So sorry.

Another vote for (some) brutalist architecture. I still can't believe Leeds council knocked down Quarry Hill flats. That building fascinated me as a child and I still think of it fondly (maybe cos I never had to live there?)

Gordon Brown. I liked him. I think Blair sabotaged him. And he reminded me of Lord Byron when younger.

I find it deeply troubling that some think otherwise but the world has always been full of arseholes, I suppose.
