is it me or does the TARDIS look different - it doesn't seem to have the white around the windows and it seems more like the rather flatter roofed TARDIS used in the classic series. And... blimey, is that Clara being locked out again??
You don't need us to tell you how well Jenna-Louise Coleman has settled into the role, and it's with Hide that interesting things begin to develop further. That's all we can really say without breaking into spoiler territory.
Once the story has moved on from the early ghost story feeling and starts to reach outside the confines of the house it somewhat loses its atmosphere, and risks becoming A. N. Other Doctor Who adventure. Though the series has often gone out of its way to find a more scientific explanation for supernatural phenomena, the interesting idea behind this ghost seems to get a bit lost during translation to the screen, leaving the latter half of the episode less interesting than the set-up.... 6/10.
Aww that's really upset me. I always have such high expectations for Doctor Who and they don't normally let me down but they have recently.
the overall vibe for this episode has been quite good though on the whole (like the den of the geek review up thread, and also the cultbox one, for example, I also think @BlogtorWho really liked it. ). And DWO were raving about Rings...so you know, take it all in context. Just because DWO were lukewarm, it shouldn't impact on your own enjoyment surely?

I know but I haven't enjoyed the past three episodes as much as I thought I would and I just want it to get better soon and I'm sort of scared it won't.
I'm not saying they're bad episodes because I know many have really loved them, I've still enjoyed them, it just feels like something is missing. I have a feeling it's Clara, modern Clara. I loved the other two Claras and this one is good too but she just doesn't seem as good as the others. I'm beginning to think it would have been better off with Victorian Clara.
Sorry to sound really depressing. My friend thinks it's the best it's been since series 3.

well we all go through bad spells, I hated series 2 of the post 2005 run more than any doctor who series just about ever, except maybe the whole trial of timelord era. By the latter half of series 2 it was only the impossible planet two parter that kept me going lol! After that it's all been pretty good for me, though series 5 thus far is my highpoint!

It's sad when you feel you are not enjoying a series. I do sympathise. I'm the opposite to Muttley - loved series 2 and hated series 5.
At least you know Doctor Who is different every week, and even more different every series. Hang on in there; you'll start liking it again at some point!

Series 5 and 6 are my favourites. I don't understand the hate for S6, I loved it, now I've watched it back there isn't one episode I don't like.

I really liked series 6, i think it does have a vocal group of detractors in fandom, because the arc is so strong, but theres really no evidence of wider discontent i don't think (and it's the same for series 2 really, even though i didn't like it), it's just you can never please everyone in the end.
Lately I've been enjoying series 3 a lot more than series 4, so it's interesting as well how views can change over time as well.

Thanks I think a lot of it could do with me being on here, I guess I'm easily influenced. Like, when Bells Of St John was on I thought it was quite good but not fantastic and then, as usual, I came on here. I saw quite a lot of comments on Jenna and her acting, saying how it's very obvious and self aware, like the way she spoke wasn't natural. I don't see this with the other two Clara's but once that was pointed out I sort of noticed it a little with this Clara. However, after watching these three episodes I still think her acting is brilliant, she just hasn't had the effect the others had on me. I think it's just when people point stuff out that I hadn't noticed it makes the show less magical for me, I couldn't bear to leave though.

Well, I don't agree with that criticism of Jenna's acting. I think she has been consistently good.
It's just their opinion. Doesn't mean they're right. Learn to ignore it. For instance, I loved The Rings of Akhaten and was amazed to find most people didn't. Doesn't matter, though, I still love it.
The episode is being billed as the scariest Doctor Who episode for a while and it lives up to the claim, for the most part. The crucial element that the episode does incredibly well is the atmosphere. The house looks superbly creepy and those classic haunted house moments are exploited for all their worth.

It isn't a spoiler of any type as far as I'm aware, other than it's actually something from the episode.

Fans of the Sonic Screwdriver will love the start of this one.
