Is there a downside to owning both an XBO and PS4 ?.

We talk about the upside to owning both consoles when it comes to 'exclusives' but what about the downside to owning both. When it comes to multi-format games, which version do we go for. How do we know our choice is the correct choice ?. The choice is made more difficult when 'exclusive' content is offered for pre-ordering certain games.
How do those that own both consoles decide which version of a game to purchase ?.
Thanks for any/all input

Those with a PS4 and X1 will say one of the following for multi platform games:
1) Depends which version my friends are getting so I can play with them
2) Always PS4 as it will 'look' better
3) Depends if one has exclusive content I want.

Yeah your'e right mate. There's always going to be one console that gets left out most of the time. for me at the mo, it's the PS4, even though I just got Driveclub. I'm playing Forza Horizon 2 a lot more. The next big game for me for PS4 will be Uncharted 4. I prefer the xbox for gaming but not entirely sure why.
Also, I prefer the controller, always have, even the doorstop from the original Xbox.
If I didn't have to give up my PS3 so soon I may be singing a different tune.
Same here.
I prefer the layout and feel of the Xbox One controller to the DualShock 4, plus of course it has a far superior battery life too.
That's more important to me than 900p versus 1080p, plus I also prefer Achievements + Gamerscore to Trophies and XBL to PSN.
To be fair, the Nokia N-gage beats the ps4 at the minute for driving games.
I am sure that the people who buy only one system will argue with all their might how that paticular console is the best.
I am lucky enough to have both and would say I play the PS4 more than the Xbone but thats more down to having more friends who own a PS4 than owning an Xbone.
To answer your question, there is nothing wrong with owning both and can finally feel a little more happy about owning an Xbone due to the upcoming Master Cheif collection and Forza Horizon 2 is amazing.
The only main reason for owning both consoles is due to the exclusives and by owning both it leaves me open to take advantage of game offers (price differences between cross platform games etc)
I don't have both consoles yet, but I did last gen. When it came to choosing which platform to get a game on, it'd mostly be based on controller preference for that genre. For FPS games for example, I preferred the Xbox controller so I got those games on Xbox. If it was a game where I'd be happy with either controller, I generally got whichever version was cheaper or had extra DLC.
I get X1 games cause of the foreign store (cheaper then buying UK disks) 👍 ... The graphical differences between the systems are soooo minor / insignificant it's not even worth thinking about! 😇 ... & I've more friends on X1 who actively send me txts everyday! 😎
(I shouldn't have let my hatred of kinect cloud my judgment regarding the X1)
When games like The Last of Us came out I was on the PS3 a lot and didn't touch my 360 in weeks. I don't have a PS4 yet but I want one for the exclusives, no way I'm going to miss out on the likes of Uncharted 4.
My PS4 owning friends outnumber my Xbox One owning friends by 10:1 so it's safe to say the vast majority of multiplayer games will be bought on PS4.
Single player multi-plats will be assessed on a game-by-game basis, taking performance, controller suitability and features / content into account.
Then, of course, are the exclusives, the real reason for owning more than one console. Hopefully each machine will see enough of them to justify ownership.
The only downside I guess is buying 2 subscriptions but then that's not so bad now because of the free games.
It's swings and roundabouts owning both, I think we should be grateful that we can have both and enjoy them however we choose.
Only downside is having to find to cash to buy every system
Meh, I have a Wii U for that
Sony really need to address that..
I'm the exact opposite from you in every way! When I get a new Xbox One, it'll just be for exclusives. I hate the UI. I won't be bothering with Kinect but it just makes the UI so fiddly to navigate. The 360 controller was perfect but the new one feels so small. Achievements don't bother me as my gamer score is so low & I've got 1000s of trophies unlocked. And I prefer PSN as everyone I know in real life that's jumped to this gen (except from one person) has got a PS4.
The downsides of owning both is having to fork out for 2 subscriptions to pay online & spending more money on games because you have access to great exclusives on both machines rather than having to miss out.
Not relevant to this gen. I have an xbox 360 and a PS3 (which I bough about a month ago) and I wish I had owned both 5 years ago as I would have sold my xbox and continued with my PS3 saving myself £200 on xbox live subs.
