Hi Guys,

I need a new Mp3 player and I have decided to go for the Creative Zen M but I don't know whether to go for the 30GB or 60GB.

Can people help me choose. I would like a poll to decide.

Thanks

Craig

It depends on how much music you have. It will also go on if you want to watch videos or films. If you intend to usem it mainly for music the 30GB is big enough ( I have the 30GB). But if you wish to keep videos to watch along with music then probably the 60GB.

How many Music tracks, Pictures, Videos etc can you fit on your 30GB?

I don't use mine for videos. Total space actually comes out at 28.565GB, I have used 22.553, with 3680 tracks. But I have my music ripped at 192kbps which uses up more space. I can still get probably another 1000. If you uses 128kbps, you can get at least 7500 tracks probably more. If you go to the creative site or this one http://www.epizenter.net/news.php
you can get more info on how much your zen will hold.

Is this true on the Creative Zen Vision M that

The Zen Vision M is a scratch-magnet. Not even the cloth pouch they give you can protect it from harm, as I've kept the ZVM tucked away in there whenever possible and yet it still managed to sneak a few scratches into the screen

    and

Most of the I/O connectors are on a mini dock instead of building them into the main unit. The mini dock plugs into a dock connector on the bottom edge of the ZVM, and contains the USB port, the AC power jack, and the AV output jack. Without the mini dock, you're screwed. There's no other way to recharge or connect with a PC so you have to be very careful not to lose it.

    are these statements true?

Sort of. The connectors are seperate and used to synching and recharging. BUT, just buy a A/C adapter off ebay and you have solved your problem for charging it. I bought mine, as I have never used my PC to charge a MP player, it takes far too long. Plus you can drag and drop with the Zen M. But I just don't know how people can lose stuff like that. If you keep the connectors attachted to the synch cable and keep it somewhere safe, how can you lose it?
As for being scratch magnet, not really. No worse than an iPod. I bought a silicon skin for mine to keep it safe, only because I use mine at night and don't want to scratch it at all. And simply because it was expensive and I don't like things getting knocked about, which they will nayway with everyday use and moving around.

With my old Creatve Zen 20GB it had the connectors at the top such as port for A/C Adaptoor and plug for USB.

Does the Creative Zen Vision W have the seperate connector with the connections or does it come built in to the unit?.

The Zen Vision comes with an adaptor which you plug into the bottom of the unit. This has the USB port, and the AV out. Not a big problem really, I am used to this anyway as my last player was an iAudio, which had the same thing.

You wont be dissapointed with the quality of this player. I just got mine last night, and in all areas it has blown me away: design, sound, screen quality, ease of file transfers: everything is great!

So you are saying that all updated Creative Zen Vision MP3 players now come with an adaptor that you plug into the bottom which has all your extras. This is for the M and W.

The reason they have done this is to make it small compact and lightweight?

So you are stuck with it?.

If you had to choose between the M or W which one would you go for?

For me, I think the Zen Vision W is too large. I wanted primarily a new music player, but something that I could watch videos on the tube on. If I want to play out onto a TV in widescreen, I can do that from the Zen Vision M.

Also, you can only get the W in 30GB (I think) and for me, the more space the better. I have 120GB of music on my PC, so the more space on my player the better.

I've had the Vision M for a couple of months now and love it. I plumped for it rather than the Vision W because it was more portable. I have about 20 hours of DIVx video on it and over a 100 Albums of music, and about 100 photos. Still have about 7 gig spare.

One tip if you plump for this- travel adaptor( basically charge direct from mains direct into core unit) and skin are worth considering. Techfocus.co.uk do an apater for £7 and leather skin for £9, or silicon skin for £6. I used techfocus to buy these. Might be able to get cheaper elsewhere though

I got the travel adaptor and silicone skin too, i noticed fingerprints on the unit after taking it out of the box for about 2 seconds, so i would definetly reccomend a skin.

Which Skin would you recomend and where can you get them from? Is the mini docl with the I/O conectors different to the traveldock.

Both the 30 and 60 comes with the I/O dock?

who specialise in Zen accessories. Also until 30/1/07 for 10% discount use the discount code "TFN10" at that website. I thought the leather skin was worth paying that little bit extra for-this also has a transparent protective cover for the screen- not sure the silicone cover has a screen cover.

I got one from Amazon, which has a solid plastic cover for double protection on the screen, and it also covers the track pad.

    http://www.i-nique.com/showdetails.asp?id=886

Only one regret with this one, it covers the lovely blue lights on my player. I may have to invest in a clear one so I can see the lights!

Anyone know where I can get a "kickstand" for this player?

Also does anyone know if a regular av cable will work to play out to a tv? The kind of cable I already have is one that came with my sony digital camera. It has a small jack on one end (with 3 rings) and goes to a yellow, red and white lead on the end. Do I have to order the Zen one, or will the one I have already work?

I am unable to find a silicon skin for the Zen Vision M. Can someone post a lin to where they got the Skin for the Zen M?

christocar : the av cable is not a normal one, look here for the pinout diagram, there are couple of other players that use the same configuration
    http://www.anythingbutipod.com/archives/2006/04/zen-vision-m-video-cable-other-4pole-35mm-pinouts.php

Just looked on amazon a proper creative cable is £9 there.

I've had my vision:m since early last year when they came out. Still very happy with it. I did buy a "skin" for mine to prevent scratches, I havent put this on yet and the player still looks as good as it did when I bought it. Only ever clean it with a soft cotton cloth or better still a lint cloth.

Initially I used the stock headphones but after a while found them a bit limiting, so swapped them for Senheiser CX 300s, they made the unit sound even better, I would reccomend them.
I've done a couple of firmware updates, which are easy to do.

Just looked on amazon, the 30Gb is £145 and the 60Gb is £193, I'd go with the 60Gb because my 30Gb is full, even with no photos and videos on it. I think both are dead cheap, mine cost me £250!

The "dongle" as its known isnt a problem, I just leave mine on the USB lead, you can buy them direct from creative for about £8 if you ever lost it.

Mine came with a power adapter, but they dont any more, again you can get them from creative, about £20 I think. There was talk on epizenter about using PSP adapters, but I dont know if its OK to do that first - you'll have to do some reading.

If you view this page. This an E Bay auction where you can purchase one. It doesn't say that thae package comes with the I/O connectors and it shows the connectors needed on the top of the unit

Except the picture of the player with the connections on the top is NOT a Vision:M it looks like a zen micro.

Heres my Vision:M complete with dongle.

    zen.jpg

Forgot to say you dont have to use the creative software to sync with the Zen - you can drag and drop, use windows media player 10 or 11, a few other apps too, but I use MediaMonkey which is a great little program.

Thanks for the info there, I have ordered the cable from Amazon. How annoying they couldnt just make it the standard camcorder cable!

I checked on Play.com, and the same cable there costs 19 quid as opposed to 9quid on Amazon!

I must say I am sooooo loving my player. I was watching South Park on the train on the way in to work today, then I got off the train, put on some music, went to my next train, re-selected the vid I was watching, and it resumed from the point I was last watching at! Fantabulous.

    Do you never listen?

Crafty has posted a pic of exactly what it's like, you have a standard USB cable, and an adaptor that makes it fit into the Zen Vision.

    It's not rocket science ffs.
