Hi,
I have Windows XP computer and whenever I click onto Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Windows I get this message: "Microsoft Office Excel or Microsoft Office Word has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
What do I do?

I've got 2007.
I have office 2007.
Do you get a similar error or do they open OK.
Good luck!
I don't have excel.exe or winword.
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12
It's possible the extension (.exe) is being hidden but there should be an excel and winword file listed. If you use the detailed view in the file list it should show "application" as the type.
I went to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12 and neither Word or Excel were listed.
On the Shortcut tab of the Properties box there should be a Target box. What does that say?
Also there should be a Find Target button. What happens if you click on that?
There is no target button or find target button.
I do not have the disk, I downloaded Microsoft office from my cousin.
Shall we all just give up now?
What do you mean?
The bottom line is you need to reinstall Microsoft Office.
Perhaps you should buy a copy?
Personally I use 365 now and just pay the subs to use on 5 machines.
You either need to obtain a legitimate copy of Office or download the free LibreOffice which is broadly compatible with Microsoft Office and should allow you to open and edit any existing documents you have.
Aha! That must be the problem then. Looks like you'll have to buy a copy and reinstall. @psionic: Does Office 365 work with Windows XP?
Nope - don't think it does. Not tried it on xp myself.
