I'll agree with you on that one, assuming that you've realised that you are part of a dwindled minority of former S1 owners. Who can't accept that former V+ users seemingly have more sway. Don't you think it's time to just concede as no one listened.

Caught, hook, line and sinker.

I like that, very good.

They actually *might* have been handy over the 24 olympic channels, if you happen to be waiting on a certain event starting but watch another event until then. Just a little prompt that the live event is starting in case you get engrossed in something else.

Is there a rough estimate (if the trial goes well) of when the rest of UK will get the latest update ??
Presume it will be after the Olympics now, in case it goes belly up.

This case is different, in that it's a feature that V+ had which has been taken away by TiVo. If V+ hadn't had the feature, I think VM would be much less inclined to add it (and of course, far fewer customers would have asked for it).

Is the EPG detailed down to individual events? Mine just has "Olympic Live" for blocks of several hours at a time.

If I cared, I'd set an alarm on my watch or my phone (or my tablet, if I had one).

Had thought it would be, but is a bit generic.

As well as all this, there is a special BBC Sport App available, which you can access in the Discovery Bar at the top of your TiVo menu page (also available in Apps & Games > TV & Entertainment). This will give you direct access to all of the BBC’s live coverage of the Games.

The TiVo BBC Sport App also has 24 channel access plus hundreds of hours of Catch Up by sport, editorial highlights plus the all-important medal table.

If you’d like to explore the events more thoroughly, simply go to: Search & Browse > Browse All TV. There you’ll find a specially put together collection, with all the Olympic Games programming separated into categories, by event, catch-up, countries and more.

Searching for the Olympic Games using this function allows you to watch events live, on catch up, or even record and set reminders for forthcoming events, all in one place.

As most people are still on the 15.2.1 software then that is another mistake on the Virgin Media website

Wrong. It was not "taken away" it was never there in the first place.

Yes. At least, the 24 extra ones are.

you misread him.

What he means is, the V+ had reminders from the year dot.

Customer named Carl gets used to using reminders, he then gets offered the TiVo, which of course never had it. Carl then feels that the reminders he used so much are now taken away from him because the new gear doesn't support it.

I think the UK is more accustomed to watching it on a channel when live, rather than the US based way of record it all and watch within your daily schedule when you have time.

If I mis-understood then it wasn't explained clearly enough and what he said was therefore not what he meant

It was a feature V+ had, that customers lost when they upgraded to TiVo. If the feature had never been there, they wouldn't have known they wanted it. Since it was there, they are quite reasonably surprised that the "upgrade" is missing a feature they were used to having. They expected TiVo to have a super-set of the features of V+.

You're point seems to be that TiVo never had that feature in the USA, or with series 1. That's not relevant as most of them never owned American or series 1 Tivos. They don't much care about the history of TiVo. They care about their own history of upgrades with VM.

Quite true that, series 1 tivo was not easy to acquire. It cost a fair bit if I remember.

but thats true though, how most of britain uses tv is quite different to the US. With alot of things we call it by the most common.

we call a vaccum cleaner a hoover, sticky tape as sellotape, DTT as freeview.

So same goes with reminders, many are looking for it because since digital boxes arrived, there had been no record, but a neat set of reminders. Whilst I can clearly see the point where some come from as to why you wouldn't need it, however some just prefer it. Thats why it stays, its what many are used to. Although the record it and watch whenever is great, especially for non live shows, quite a few still prefer to watch tv live when it's aired on the channel.

I think thats just it, american TiVo doesn't fit to us so we have to mould it a little.

I understand what you are saying, brangdon. I think VM were genuinely surprised that people wanted to have reminders with a TIVO box because strictly speaking, they are unnecessary.

I expect a lot of people missed the 'choke' control on their cars when they stopped doing them. It's just progress.

To VM's credit, they have listened to their customers and the next update will incorporate them. I don't see why we are continuing to debate this, it's getting boring now.

Women lost the place to hang their handbags when the choke went

OMG! I'm flashing-back driving lessons in my youth. (Never did pass!) When did those disappear?

thats a very bold statement there. It's saying we should just stop using it.

i wont go into detail like before, however I don't get this whole ethos of watching everything later. Sure I understand that it works well for me though its useless for live TV.
