Chances Of A New Nexus Phone Anytime Soon?
It's upgrade time for me and after having an HTC as my last two phones I was thinking about a One X but reading about all the problems I've been put off!
I did consider a Samsung GS3, but after using my Xoom running JB I really like the idea of a vanilla Android phone!! What's the latest rumors about a forthcoming Nexus phone?, is it likely anytime soon? Any other suggestion? Thanks |

The rumour going round is multiple Nexus', made by different manufacturers, and to be announced in November.

The rumour about multiple Nexus devices dates back to before the Galaxy Nexus - there were suggestions that 5 similarly-specced handsets running vanilla ICS would be released by 5 OEMs (Samsung, HTC, LG, Motorola and Sony nee Ericcson).
To be honest, I struggle to see what need there'd be for 5 subtly different Nexus handsets. I'm not a fan of the OEM skins really but once you remove them, it doesn't leave that much scope for variety really. |

Hopefully it might just be an indication that skins may be on the way out and all phones would be vanilla with optional 'launchers' by each manufacturer which would work like apps. This would mean everyone could get Android updates much quicker ! |

There is also a huge software update doing the rounds at the moment, which apparently improves lots of elements of the phone, including a significant boost to the battery life. Not sure if HTC has ironed out the hardware issues yet, but I would guess that from the amount of returns that something has been done. Don't forget, on forums, it is not very often that you hear the positives, the majority people post to point out issues. Although, having said that. the One X has had its fair share of posts. |

That and if you look at the flagship Android handsets that have been released this year, to the less techy customer there isn't much if any difference in the specs/hardware - there'd be even less to pick between the One X, Optimus 4X HD and Ascend D quad if they all ran stock Android. Quote:
With ICS, the skins have generally become less intrusive but I can't see the big manufacturers backing off any more than that - possibly smaller or up-coming companies opting for vanilla Android to try and differentiate themselves or to simply reduce costs. When even the likes of Sony steadfastly refuse to use stock Android even though they desperately need a way of making themselves relevant and to stop making a loss, I don't think there's much hope for the big names to drop all their customisation, they simply have too big of an opinion of themselves. |

The S3 should get Jelly Bean pretty soon.
Failing that the Galaxy Nexus is fantastic and will get K flavoured android first. |

yep, the Nexus is now very good value simfree and with its 100% touchscreen its the best looking android phone out there - home buttons are so 2007
![]() seriously though, the galaxy nexus is a fantastic phone and running android 4.1 has made it even better. i would guess it will get the next android version before the likes of the s3 ever get jellybean! |

Well the S3 is due to get Jelly Bean in the next couple of weeks so this is probably not the case, but I do agree with you that the Galaxy Nexus is still a fantastic phone and considering it is coming up to a year old (in November), it is still punching with the big boys in my opinion.

Some network providers could take months on top of that to roll it out to their phones ...... This is why I'm hoping to be able to stick to nexus devices from now on. |
