  He's only being told what to say, not very convincingly at it either (as is none of the judges "arguments" tonight.)

  He's merely playing Cowell's role of abrasive head judge, right down to the acknowledgement of the audience behind him when they're booing and jeering.

  It's an act. Not a very good one either, least Cowell was more convincing.

  I also think he was out of line with what he said to Louise.Yes ,he makes mistakes....however...I think his acts are alright this year.Loving Jonny, and Kitty.Garys acts however....meh....could take or leave them to be honest.There songs were dull this week.

  Exactly. Simon and the producers need to listen to what the public are saying, because it is in danger of becoming so boring. It's only some of the artists that are keeping me watching.
