Hello, me and a friend were thinking about going camping just for a night, somewhere in the Yorkshire/Lancashire area would be best but we've no idea where to go so i was wondering if anyone had any ideas?
ideally looking for somewhere in the manchester/leeds/sheffield kind of areas but anywhere will do so long as it's not hundreds of miles away.
Not really after a camp site either more somewhere with nice scenery etc so long as it's safe and there are no angry wild animals
Cheers

Great scenery and dramatic Gordale Scar and Malham Cove to visit.
If you like a pint, of the three sites, Riverside is a short stroll from the village.
A beautiful part of the world.

If you do go wild camping (pitch anywhere not on a site) the angriest, wild animal you will meet is the farmer who owns the land.
They also have forums which are great for advice and recommendations.
Are you expecting to face a charging badger or an irritated Heron?

EDIT: Argh, just read that it was drained in 2010
You sound as though you havent't camped before so I'd strongly recommend a campsite for your first attempt. You can try out your routine for cooking, sleeping etc and iron out any niggles first. That way, if you find that you can't get a wink of sleep on that mat you bought, it's not a big problem, as you can always sleep in the car if the worst comes to the worst.
If you've hiked miles out into the boonies to wildcamp, find you can't hack it (or you've forgotten something vital) and night is falling, you can be in real trouble. Wildcamping is great fun but it's not for the inexperienced. The general rules are pitch late, move on early and leave absolutely no trace.
There are some really nice campsites out there, with fantastic scenery. The UK campsite website's already be mentioned and the book Cool Camping (horrible title but not a bad guide) has several suggestions for the best campsites in the UK.
