In response to a thread i posted last week about losing all my purchased songs on Itunes (i managed to recover them via my husband Iphone in the end).

But after going on Itunes on my husbands laptop and deciding to see what would happen if i tried to purchase a song id already bought that was not in the Itunes library on this laptop (expecting it to charge me again) m very happy to say it let me download for free after telling me id already purchased it!

I dont know if this is a new thing because i know in the past ive paid twice for some songs that i downloaded twice!

Anyway its good to know incase of future accidents!!! and yes ive now done a backup!

Yeah, it changed last year, as part of the overall "iCloud" rollout. Apple did a deal with the record labels to allow people to re-download purchased songs without having to pay again - "iTunes in the Cloud".

So, if you ever lose your library for some reason, you can easily re-download all your purchased music (and apps and TV progs etc.) again without paying again.

My PC has had two restores and two new hard drives and I thought I had lost some of my iTunes downloads which I hadn't managed to save.

But they are there which I found out after reading this thread.

    Thanks :)

If you email them as well they send you link that lets you download them again, it's happened to me in the past

whilst they have been known to do that, they are under no obligation to do so.
