YES...............Hopefully this is a good omen for tonight (in another German speaking country).

Very well done, as she is mainly a pool swimmer (200metres) and also very young (only 20-years of age).

Seems not. There are also open water relays on Saturday and 25K races on Sunday, so don't know if she is in for any of those.

More about Daniel Fogg's gold. I didn't realise that the 5K race is a cycling-style individual time trial rather than a mass-start rammy, like the 10K and the triathlon swim.

She's taking a break from the sport but plans to be at full force in the lead up to Rio starting next year. She has been swimming a few events here and there but not at full fitness. Open Water marathon swimmers, on the whole, have longer careers and many of the best ones have been successful after taking breaks from the sport. Payne had thought about joining her husband in retirement once the Olympics were over but I don't think she wanted her career to end that way.

It's the first time it's been a time trial format. FINA are trying this out in the 5K to avoid the mayhem and bloodsport that has happened in the past, especially at the beginning of the race when the pack is together. The 10K and 25K will be the usual format. Oddly, the men will have to get back in the water straight away tomorrow morning for the 10K. Usually they would receive a rest day if not two in between. That's brutal

BBC story on the British squad for the champs. The good thing is that it is mostly made up of the new generation of younger, hungrier swimmers who did so well in Glasgow.

Unfortunately, one of our bests hopes for Gold in Berlin (200IM), Siobhan Marie O'Connor, has been forced to pull out of the meet due to illness. That's also a big blow to the women's medley relay (the butterfly leg) which also was a gold favourite. It will be interesting to see who can back up from the Commies. It's down to medal hopes Halsall, Peaty, Carlin, Murdoch, Taylor, Proud, Davies, Walker-Hebborn, and Willmott now.

That's a real shame as I think SMOC was one of the stars of the games and at 18 she looks like the real deal.

Do we stand any chance in either of the 4x100m Freestyle ? Or is it Germany and France to watch out for now ?
