Recommendations for Edinburgh restaurants

Spending a week in Edinburgh in May and wondered where people on here might have had a good meal in the city. We've been there a few times before but not for five years or so, so new places would be very welcome. Open-minded as to what kind of food, as long as it's a few steps up from fast food.

Just make your own food, so much cheaper and you know what goes in it!

For great tapas try Cafe Andaluz on George Street.

For haute cuisine take the number 41 bus to Sweet Melinda's in Marchmont; pricey but divine.

Hei Chinese is a lovely friendly BYOB in Bread Street, just off Lothian Road.

Try the chocolate and Irn Bru curries at Kismot, St Leonards Street.

For nice gastropub staples and a relaxed atmosphere go to Montpeliers in Bruntsfield.

Burgers and vodka at Bar Kohl, George IV Bridge.

Oink!!! Go to Oink for a pulled pork roll, they're bloody great - there's one on Cannongate and one on Victoria Street.

Also go to Lovecrumbs cake shop for a slice of beautiful cake and a cuppa. And Marys Milk Bar on the Cannongate.
