What's the best thing about Christmas for you?

For me its the time off work, Not particularly worried about Christmas itself to be honest, in fact I find the falseness and commercialisation of it all quite sickening.

Even though I am not that into Christmas I love to see all the lights on the outside of houses as I walk around the village in the dark.
The Christmas market in Manchester is always good when it gets dark, nice stalls with gifts and great food and drink.
I liked it when the kids were kids, maybe when they have kids it will be nice again for me.

Right now, the best thing is that it'll all be over in a fortnight. The time off is nice but as my main hobby is playing golf it's not really the best time of the year to have off.

    Roast potatoes.

Giving my mother a nice present is satisfying.

The older you get the more you couldn't care less about Christmas.

You didn't disappoint with this one. I'm surprised it took until post #7. :p

Actually Christmas doesn't just begin early every year but it continues onwards ever more. I suppose January 7th would be the logical date, after twelfth night when all the decorations are away for another 330 days or so. However many of the trimmings of the season still remain for some time after this, such as the nuts and endless boxes of sweets. Most years my own mother doesn't even make the first cut in her Christmas cake until around mid January! Not until the end of January are all signs totally gone. This cannot be unique surely? :o

Why do you need Christmas to do that. If applicable.

Another thing about Christmas, apart from the incessant TV adverts, the buy this buy that culture we have, is people saying it is a good time to get together with (the) family. If it's such as good time, then why not at other times of the year. That's for those of you who have a family you want to see or even have a family to see.

I enjoy Christmas decorations, cheesy x-mas movies and time off from work, but my favorite is finding the perfect gift for someone. The joy and surprise on their face makes me so happy

BIB I imagine all the family having time off work at the same time is a major factor in this.

My favourite thing, besides the atmosphere we create in our home for the festive season, is seeing the look of happiness on my daughter's face as she opens her presents. Nothing more complicated than that. Happy Christmas everyone :)

The weather, the food, and being snuggled up with my partner & my kitties watching crappy movies. I enjoy seeing the houses all lit up, too.

Got to be the Boxing Day drink up at my Auntie's house.

Love having the kids off school for a couple of weeks too, as with all the holidays and half terms I love being able to enjoy days out with them without being on someone else's timetable.

Usually it's the spending time with family, seeing my grandad get teary when he says the present I've put so much thought into, the kids smiles when they open their presents. Just so much happiness. However today I spent the day Christmas shopping with my mum and she was telling me how she's more excited than the kids to go to winter wonderland this year as she finally has her wheelchair we can take her. That's going to be the best part of it this year.

The Christmas Eve midnight carol service at church nearby. I'm not exactly religious, but there's something incredibly calming and peaceful about it.

It was very disappointing to not attend it last year because of the horrible weather (strong winds and torrential rain).
