LBC General Chit-Chat (Part 30)

After the media have taken their pickings - it is just really awful to hear on LBC how the girlfriend of Andreas Lubitz said how he needed for people to remember him by crashing a plane and in this case taking 150 lives with him.
Yes, I hear already the criticism of his girlfriend not reporting him. Possibly she thought her personal input could dissuade from the act he was about to commit.
He suffered from depression, already this was known by his supervisors before, as he'd had previous episodes documented with regard to his medical history. And yet no one picked up on this man's needs?! How crazy is that?

The late Winston Churchill suffered from severe depression yet he escaped media criticism because his particular dynamics didn't involve taking others with him on a desperate suicide mission.
I don't think though somehow that Andreas Lubitz should be readily judged by media because, effectively all the warning signs were there in the first place.
I take on board in expressing a view that, this man needed help and his needs weren't met, against the possible counter reaction of others in possibly seeing this man condemned, or whatever?

Given the amount of "foreigners" from both outside and inside the UK who live in London, I would say that wasn't necessarily the case. If I were to 'phone in, you'd assume from my accent that I was not living in London.
we'll be the judge of that! :p

I've always loved actor and animal lover Peter Egan, one of my favourite people on Twitter - but he's gone even higher in my estimation now -

.@mrjamesob Sad to hear your inane remarks regarding #foiegras @LBC today.Your brain has sunk into your belly. It's about cruelty not class!

That's put Gobber in his place.

Very poor from James O'Brien who will need yet another puff piece dressed up as journalism in the Guardian to try and counter act yet more evidence of his stupidity.

Can't imagine Paxman or Dimbleby tweeting this sort of student level spite. It could come back and bite J O'B in the bum if he ever wants to be taken seriously as a political interviewer.

Heading to Manchester where, I learn, a Tory conference & a neo-Nazi rally are currently underway. Separately, I presume. Hope it's raining.

Well, I have heard a large number of callers from outside the London area.

Someone more cynical than me might suggest that callers from outside the M25 and/or with a "funny accent" are given priority, to prove how national LBC is.

Wow. Is there nothing that posters in this thread won't use as a stick to beat James O'Brien with?

Go on then - defend or justify that comment by somebody who expects to be taken seriously as a presenter on a politically neutral media outlet like the BBC.

It will only balance the BBC out. I think most people know Paxman and Dimbleby are tory voters.

No, Orionpam - Cristo is staying where he is until October (I think he said it was then) when I believe he wants to leave that timeslot, if not the station. He seems to find it hard to lead a social life doing the hours he currently does!

Olly is moving to the weekend evening show currently presented by Ian Collins. Ian takes over the weeknight show that Duncan Barkes did and Duncan has left altogether.

Well, to be honest, I was referring to the whole foie gras debacle but the posting in this thread of that tweet is another example of posters in this thread using anything and everything as ammunition to fire at O'Brien. And I would justify that tweet by reminding you that it was intended as a joke and was not to be taken seriously. And O'Brien doesn't want to be taken seriously as a presenter at the BBC because he's not a presenter at the BBC! He presents a phone-in on LBC and a talk show on ITV. On the odd occasion, he presents Newsnight on the BBC but that is in a relief capacity and Newsnight is a general current affairs programme rather than a specialist political programme.

It's been absolutely p...... it down for 24 hours.

Cheap snide dig, it won't be missed or forgotten by those that matter.

It's funny, because the very posters having a go at JOB's tweet include those who defend Steve Allen's sense of humour and who are often to be found having a go at others for not seeing a joke as a joke.

Offence is such a personal thing, isn't it?

(And I say that as a Steve fan).

You talk about the foie gras debacle, I commented. Did you actually hear J O'B's supercilious remarks on how animals/ducks/geese should be treated on his show yesterday?

BTW. I was one of the posters who commented how well he covered the breaking news of the pilot "deliberately crashing the plane".

It has indeed. I popped out for a quarter pound of foie gras and got soaked!

I wonder which of manchesters fine hotels JOB will be bunking up in?

Certain posters jsam ... ;- ) ,,, and yes, you are right, there is nothing. A lot of J O'B dislikers here.

I find it quite disturbing, they listen to his shows, watch his Twitter feed, and post baleful comments on here ad nauseum.

He is quite successful in his work, and I do wonder if that is why he attracts such approbium?

Do you mean me? I was not having a go at JOB's tweet.

I think the ones who are having at JOB's tweet do the same to Steve Allen!

Unfortunately not. I was otherwise occupied yesterday morning and couldn't listen to the show.

    A lot of generalising there.

I haven't listened to his show for at least 2 years.

I only knew of the fois gras thing because I saw it via one of my contacts on Twitter.

I am getting a teeny little bit bored of having the fact that I listen to some of the output of the presenters I critisise chucked back in my face, usually with a snide comment.

I don't tell anyone what they should or shouldn't listen to, or ask why people who slate Nick Ferrari don't listen to someone else instead. The reason I don't do that is that it's everyone's prerogative to listen to exactly what they want, and if that's only in order to tut at the radio, or come on here and write about it then it's absolutely nothing to do with anyone else.

99% of the posts on this thread are negative about LBC but we're ALL still listening aren't we?. So how about everyone just gets over it and accepts the fact that millions of people sit down every day and night, read, watch and listen to stuff, then slag it off. It's human nature.

    Thanks!

It goes further than that, BB. I have previously been taken to task by a forum regular for not being qualified to criticize presenters because I had reduced my LBC listening.

    Thanks!

And I back you up 100% on that, BB.

Despite some not liking it, I will listen to programmes and presenters that I dislike, or that might wind me up, and comment on them as often and for as long as I like. Those that don't like it, skip my posts or put me on ignore.

Why 'sad empty lives' just for commenting or saying that you don't like someone or their view?

In that case, ALL of us on here must have sad empty lives, or we'd be off doing livesaving surgery or inventing the next big thing, instead of having time to comment on anything.
